Who is Kate Mckinnon you ask? well she is not only my new obsession, but she is a comedian and actor, basically she's a badass. I've been spending my spare time, wishing and daydreaming about Kate and biding my time until "Ghostbusters" comes out (she is Jillian Holtzmann). I've also been catching up on "Saturday Night Live" so that I can know all of her sketches and skits and learn her sense of humor through her acting abilities.
Not only do I research everything about her, but I follow others who like her too, so I can keep tabs on them. It's a little scary how this works. I wondered what makes people do the crazy things they do for celebrities. I feel that I could possibly throat punch someone for the honor of Kate. I haven't been this driven over a celebrity since The New Kids On The Block were the thing in the late 80's. Come on! How can I grown woman feel this kind of "love" for a celebrity?
There is a physiological explanation and it is called Celebrity Worship Syndrome! and I am sick to my stomach about it. Basically there are different levels of worship, but the gist of the syndrome is that people become obsessed with the details of a celebrities lives. What? So, basically I shouldn't tell you that Kate McKinnon has a cat Nino, who she calls her son (and he's 17 pounds), or that she once claimed to have "rotten crotch" in an interview, or that she prefers red-heads to blondes and that she prefers femmes to butches! The levels range from stalker (seriously) to fan (okay I can dig it). I don't think I'm too bad on the scales.
In a published journal titled: "I'm Your Number One Fan"-A Clinical Look At Celebrity Worship, Randy Sansone, MD and Lori A Sansone, MD claim that,"Various studies have explored specific psychological features of celebrity worshippers. For example, McCutcheon and Maltby examined over 200 adults, both in the United States and the United Kingdom (UK), with regard to their attitudes toward celebrity worshippers. 3 Using the Celebrity Attitudes Scale, the researchers found that participants perceived celebrity worshippers as more likely to be foolish, persistent, irresponsible, submissive, and less honest."
I can't vouch for everyone, but I can vouch for myself. I am none of those things. But I do love Kate McKinnon, and I'm not sure when that will end. It is what it is.
