My Newfound Appreciation for Star Wars

It's never too late to get into a fandom.

My boyfriend has gotten me into Star Wars. I never thought I'd say this, but I do love it. Before him, I always imagined Star Wars as stupid science fiction. He's not the only nerd that I've been around who loves Star Wars. I have several family members and friends who love the series. I just never thought it was something I'd get into because I'm not big on science fiction.

The story line, acting, plot, and everything else about Star Wars is so well done. There were so many plot twists in the movies, which kept me on my toes. I can truly see why the fandom is devastated about the passing of Carrie Fisher. She is so iconic to these movies, and I don't think anyone can do Princess Leia better than she can. Star Wars is one of the movies where you can really see the talent that goes into the acting roles. Also, 70s Harrison Ford looked really good. You can really tell that these characters are bad ass. Not to mention, the orchestra music is awesome. Everybody knows the classic sound of the Star Wars theme song or the Imperial March.

The fictional creatures are also really cool, except for alien characters like Jabba the Hut or Jar Jar Binks, they were gross. The ewoks are so adorable. Chewbacca is super intelligent for a beast. I loved C3PO and R2D2. Their friendship is relatable to real life. They remind me of myself and a very close friend of mine (who also loves Star Wars and C3PO). Also, their dialogue and behavior in the movies are hilarious. I love how R2 just rolls around like nothing is wrong, while C3PO says things like, "oh dear!" with his accent. R2D2 is the fiesty friend who is always up to something, while C3PO is the opposite, but still cool. Not to mention, BB8 is absolutely adorable.

At least now I can laugh at Star Wars jokes and memes because I fully understand them. There are so many good ones out there, and I laugh at every single one of them. I haven't enjoyed fandom jokes ever since my favorite TV show Castle was cancelled. Speaking of, I'd love to see Nathan Fillion in a Star Wars movie. If he could do Serenity and Firefly, then he could definitely fill a role in a new Star Wars movie. Anyway, I know I'm late getting into Star Wars since it's been around for almost 40 years, but hey, it's never too late. I guess it's time for me to start buying Star Wars merchandise. I promise I'm not nerdy.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
