My Most Serious Relationship: Coffee

In all of the trials and toils of my so far amazing college experience, I have had one consistent companion to hold my hand throughout it all: coffee. Yes, I am also blessed with amazing family and friends, and I thankful for them everyday. But, there is something different about the bond between a girl and her cup of Joe.

You fill me with such life and help me push on to reach the heights of my potential. And when I miss my morning meeting with your black glory, I can feel the weight of that mistake weighing on my head for the rest of my day. Who has been there for my sleepless nights hovering over my computer’s keyboard? Who warms my stomach with a gentle hug? Who has been the one to pick me up when I can’t even think of making it out of bed? That’s right: it’s my steaming cup of java.

Coming in all shapes, sizes, colors and textures, there is always a way to integrate you into my daily routine. You don’t have to get all dressed up with sophisticated mixtures and concoctions. Just like you do for me, I’ll take you however you come with a smile and a heartfelt embrace.

No matter the exterior you present yourself in, a Starbucks cup, a to-go tumbler, or my monogram mug, it’s what’s on the inside that counts when it comes to your self worth. Especially at this time of year when you are dressed with extra holiday flavors and calories, I can’t help myself when it comes to getting a second cup. Who would blame me? Red is your color.

Even on our worst of days, like when your evil twin Decaf rears its ugly head, we always get through it because we know we couldn’t be our true selves without each other. Who could stay mad at someone who is always there for them?

So next time you are brewing away getting ready to be sipped and enjoyed, know you are an appreciated part of my day. You, coffee, are the most serious relationship in my life; I am happy I have such a strong foundation to base my day around. And it’s okay if everyone else cannot relate to our special friendship: We only need each other to make it through with a smile.

I pray you never leave me, I don’t know what I would do without your jumpstart to my day. But really, I know you will always be there waiting for me to pick you up and carry you wherever my day takes me. Thanks for being my side kick and the best partner in crime there is, you truly warm my heart and keep me going until it’s time to search for my next cup.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
