It is nothing new of you to read someone’s opinions and comments on two current and very emotionally wound movements. It is also nothing new for you to question what side you are on, called upon to take a stance for one belief or the other, and be told that if you are not for one belief you must be against it. Right?
Here is one revolutionary movement that could perhaps make more of a difference than anyone can imagine: My Life Matters.
My life matters because I will not let social or political validations determine my self-worth. My life matters because our good and gracious God created me. My life matters because I say it does.
So, although this world isn’t sunshine and daisies, let’s not pretend that once upon a time it used to be. Let’s not blame the media or this generation or that generation or this group of people and that political party.
I promise it isn’t selfish to hold yourself in high standards. Just imagine how revolutionary it would be if we all spent more time reflecting on ourselves and less time critiquing others ideas of what is right or wrong.
Something that is REALLY, REALLY hard for me to accept is that you can’t fix everything you think is wrong. You cannot heal all of the hurt. You cannot understand everyone’s sorrow. You will not rejoice for the same reasons as some and equally you will not weep with them, either. You cannot. I cannot.
It is really hard to accept imperfections in a world that can in one digital click look so, so, overwhelmingly perfect. But, I have learned that is so much more important to be satisfied with our personal ideas of perfection rather than be so focused on what the world around us screams so loudly. We live in a world where a hashtag can create the majority opinion.
For those of you who have read this far, you might say what I often hear from those who know me best, ‘you cannot just make this world be what you want it to be,’ . . .
Something, I have recently learned is, they’re right. If you have had that same thought, then you’re right, too. This world cannot be what each of us envision. Clearly, that is a huge, contributing factor to many of our public issues and movements today, the world doesn’t always reflect what we think is good and just and right. That is something that needs to be accepted.
All I am asking is, does your own life really reflect what you think is good and just and right? How has it become so normalized that we sign petitions, march, kick, scream, fight, and stand behind these large elaborate beliefs and ideas if we are not even sure of what we see in ourselves?
YOU MATTER.
YOUR LIFE MATTERS.
Remember that and be proud of that! Take pride and respect in yourself and your words and the fact that YOU are blessed enough to be able to share so openly your beliefs and opinions and ideas. And by share I do not mean shove them down others throats. I mean genuinely share. Share respectfully, and you will receive respect. But do not think that you can make a difference if you lack what so many, myself included on occasions, seem to lack in this society, self-respect.
My life matters. My life matters because I respect myself.
Can you say the same?
