My Life Is A Joke

sometimes I laughed to keep from crying in my ice cream.

My Life Is A Joke
My person collection

Hi, I'm Kira and my life as I know it, is a joke.

At the beginning of this semester, I took my first L, I mean test in Abnormal Psychology. I'm still not over the 57 out of 100 that I made. No one gave me that F, I made that F. I failed to check the syllabus to assure myself that I had time to study. Along with an unassured date, I was left with a misunderstanding of the exam structure. To my surprise this was a short answer only exam. Needless to say, I crammed so hard the night before and was in search of my white flag at the first glance of the very first question.

My life is a joke. And sometimes all I can do is laugh.

Just last week I had the clumsiest day. I woke up late after a well deserved nap between my 8 a.m. and 10 a.m. classes. I gave myself a five minute grace period to leave the room and still get there on time. I went to brush my teeth and noticed that I had placed my bluetooth speaker awkwardly on the edge of my sink. I went to reposition my speaker, the metallic nail polish that sat atop the speak went flyinging into the sink. It shattered and my white sink now had some what a pink milky way feel. I had maybe 10secs to leave the room before I would have to sprint up the greenway and through the crosswalk. By the grace of God and Jesus I got the polish up before it dried and made it to class a literal minute late.

Later that night I went into my kitchen to cook a bowl of oatmeal. When I tried to retrieve said bowl from the microwave, the bowl wilted and piping hot oatmeal dropped into the palm of my hand. it was my reflexes that got oatmeal all over the wall, my loaf of bread and the floor without leaving me with a 2nd or 3rd degree burn.

Instead of dwelling on it, I took a picture for my snapchat and made another bowl.

Just yesterday I only had breakfast. I decided to ordered pizza because I knew I would be on duty. They got everything wrong making them 30 minutes late delivering. In turn, they remade my pizza and gave me the ruined one as well. When I opened both boxes, they seemed perfectly fine. I was able to share with my bestie Maya G.

So i'm on duty, on a friday night during a popular party, with a test and a paper happening this coming monday morning. My sisters throwing surprise 21st and all work friends are living up their night off. In the mist of my moping I realized that I didn't receive one phone call. All night. Blessings.

After trying yet laughable times like these I call up my girls and we swap punchlines.

Daisy Martinez: "I'm bad at everything"

Janessa Gilbert: "My life is going down the drain"

Erin Coffee: "I'm failing and i'm trash"

Me: "My life's a joke".

In reality on my next test I made a 100, I got a free pizza and was able to begin another Netflix Original. To top it all off, i'm never alone in my struggles as long as I have these ladies by my side.

Honestly, I try to keep in mind that the world is bright and beautiful. And this girl will always laugh the loudest even if life gets the last laugh.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
