My Idea of A Perfect Day

Who I saw, what I ate, how I did it

I was reading about the "36 Questions That Make Strangers Fall in Love," simply because I think the whole idea of the test is intriguing. One of my favorite questions that I found was, "describe you perfect day." I thought it would be fun to talk about my idea of a perfect day, from start to finish.

I wake up and it's raining. I get to stay in bed for a few hours in fuzzy socks and oversized pajamas. I drink coffee and eat breakfast in bed while watching New Girl and laughing my ass off. I burn candles in the background and keep my room dark.

When I finally decide to roll out of bed, I look in the mirror and my hair looks perfect. I throw on a little bit of makeup while listening to my favorite Fall playlist. I get dressed in my favorite red combat boots and chunky sweater and spray on a little too much of my favorite perfume. I head downstairs and my parents are sitting at the kitchen table drinking coffee and reading the New York Times. They hardly ask me any questions before I head out the door...remember, this is a perfect day.

When I get outside, it magically stops raining and the temperature is a perfect 72 degrees. I get in my car, put the convertible top down, put on my favorite song, and go get iced coffee with my friend Leanne. We drive through Hoboken listening to our favorite songs from middle school and look at the Steven's frat boys how I hope my daughter never does.

I drop Leanne off and take a drive with my parents to some small town in New Jersey or upstate New York. We eat lunch in a cozy cafe and drive with the windows down. I get home, go the gym, walk my dog and he doesn't stop to lift his leg at every inanimate object. What a dream world.

I get home and take a warm shower and crash into my bed to lay around for a few hours and watch YouTube or Netflix or read my favorite book. My mom makes eggplant parmigiana and after we're done eating, my friends come over. We sit in my basement and eat ice cream and talk about everything. We drive around some more and look at the skyline and everyone magically knows the word to every song that comes on.

I get home and the house feels warm and inviting and is not scary in the dark. I have freshly washed sheets, and my makeup comes off easy with water, and my dog is curled up in the blanket on the foot of the bed.

These are all of my favorite things rolled into one day and I'm fortunate enough to say that my perfect day happens often.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
