My Guide To The Month Of April

Happy April and happy spring. As one could have guessed, the flowers are beginning to bloom, the sun is out longer and the desire to be spontaneous and adventurous has quadrupled in size since beginning of winter. Now, in every college town, there are distinct "spontaneous" ideas that every student has every once in awhile. As a graduating senior, I wanted to share some brief words of wisdom about my own April Activity guide and how to make the best of the last month of school.

Go watch the Sunrise

Via Justina Ambroz

Wake up before sunrise one morning with your roommates, grab your coffee, and drive to the nearest mountain overlook and watch the sunrise. If you are a senior (and of legal drinking age) you may think about bringing a bottle of bubbly to celebrate the past four years with your greatest friends. Rather than focus on taking cute pictures or Snapchatting every second of the sunrise, put your phone away and just enjoy the moment. Enjoy who you are with and the new day on the horizon (literally).

Eat Lunch on the Quad

Via Justina Ambroz

This one is kind of a given; eat lunch at one of the prettiest places on campus. For me and my fellow JMU Dukes this is our quad. On one of those warm, sunny days rather than spend lunch in the library or a dining hall, take it to go and sit outside. For me this most definitely means a sunburn is guaranteed, but hey that will turn to tan eventually, right? Make your friends eat outside with you and enjoy the moment. Plan out your campus crawl and whether or not you are going to streak the quad and make those college memories you will want to re-tell over and over again.

Take a Road Trip

Via Odyssey

Even if its just to the town or city next to your university and even if its just for the day, get in your car, pick up a few friends, and drive. Don't worry about your long to do list, but blast those throwback songs, scream the lyrics till your voice is hoarse, and laugh until your stomach hurts. Enjoy the little moments of adventure with your friends. Maybe this road trip will include a hike or maybe it will just be getting lunch somewhere else. Enjoy the times that you will never forget and don't forget to fill up on gas on your way out of town.

To college students everywhere, April may just be the most perfect month invented. Its not yet blazing hot, but the opportunities for spontaneity and nice weather are endless. Go on those adventures, be a little wild, and make those memories that will last forever.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
