My Goals For 2017

My Goals For 2017

I believe that one of the best ways to hold yourself accountable for something is to make it public to the world. That is exactly what I'm doing: publicizing my goals, or "New Years resolutions" to make sure that I actually follow through with them. This year, I chose goals that are attainable, positive, and will come with dedication and hard work. I'm excited to share these goals with the world, and hopefully by the end of 2017 I will have accomplished them:

Eat one raw vegan meal a day.

This past year I transformed my life through veganism. The ethics, the health benefits, and the companions that I've gained through being vegan have truly converted me, but I want to take it one step further. I believe that although it may not be possible for everyone (including myself at this point in my life), eating raw vegan is the most healthy diet possible. That's why it's one of my goals for 2017 to eat one raw vegan meal every day. Perhaps it will be a delicious smoothie in the morning full of spinach, bananas, and blueberries, or maybe it will be a big bowl of fruits or veggies - who knows! I'm so excited to learn new recipes and improve my well being even more than I already have.

Get back into the yoga flow.

In 2016 I started working out on a regular basis. This involved going to the gym three times a week, walking more, and doing yoga every Tuesday night. Circumstances changed at the studio I was practicing at and my favorite teacher ended up leaving. I stopped going yoga altogether but I've decided it's time to start back up. My busy schedule does not allow me to go to the gym regularly anymore, but I plan on doing yoga at least once a week soon. For my mind, body, and soul, I want to start practicing yoga again.

Convert my makeup collection to vegan products.

Even though I went vegan this past year, I still have made the switch when it comes to cosmetics. Although most everything I put on and in my body is free of animal products, I've been hesitant to convert all of my makeup products. That all changes this year, however, because it's time for me to make the switch completely.

Make more art.

I made a lot of cool stuff in 2016. I wrote songs, short stories, performed, and really pushed myself as an artist. In 2017, I want to push myself even more. I want to break out of my comfort zone and really make art. This means improving the skill set I have, acquiring new skills, and dedicating my time and effort to doing what I love: creating and sharing

Cut added sugar out of my diet (almost) completely.

This one is simple: it's nothing new that added sugar is not good for your body, so this year I want to cut it out of my diet. I don't eat tons and tons of sweets to begin with, but it's a goal of mine to make a conscious effort to restrict my sweet tooth even more.

Practice mindfulness and meditation on a regular basis.

Studies have shown that practicing mindfulness and meditation can greatly reduce stress and improve mental health. Although I have a very busy schedule, I plan on integrating these practices into my daily, or at least weekly life. Better health, better me!

Whether or not you have any goals for 2017, try and view every day as an opportunity to better yourself and better your life. Happy New Year!

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
