Side note of how Pinterest works: It's a site where you're able to look up key words such as “hair” or even something more specific such as “pink pixie hair” and there will be pictures beyond pictures that resemble these words. As you click on a post, you then are able to scroll down and find more like that. You can make as many boards (“Wicked Hair”) as you want and stick those posts (“Pink pixie hair”) under that board to save for later, simple as that…
Dear future husband... I am so sorry. Kinda.
There was a time where I would lay in bed for countless hours and make Pinterest boards pertaining to my liking… This includes my future house, kitchen, bed rooms, bathrooms, yard, wedding, clothing, and even my future pets. I was looking through these boards the other day and I just had to giggle at myself because none of these things are realistic, only materialistic. Though, there is a sense of excitement in knowing these pictures are real and someone has these types of homes or bedrooms. Nonetheless, this has become a problem because now I have an expectation to live such a lavish life, but a girl with big aspirations can dream, right?
Here are a series of pictures to express my comments above, and then hopefully you too will see where Pinterest has done its users wrong. Without further or do, please step into the future with me as we go through a tour of how my life could be… according to Pinterest.
My home.
There are many homes that are posted on Pinterest; cottages, ranch-style, apartments, condos, Victorian, beach, and even the cookie cutters. But even the smallest of a home
Inside the House.
Clean & Minimal… That's basically me in a nut shell andmy future as it stands. There's a bit of theme to these pictures but it's sort
of what I've come to terms with. Let me have my white walls, furniture, and appliances.
Also, I either will be cleaning for the rest of my life or I won’t have any
kids… Thanks, Pinterest.
The living room.
The kitchen.
The bedroom.My wedding.
Okay...this is where I get a little ridiculous. Pinterest has probably spoiled me and a million other young women on “planning” their wedding day… Even when we’re still single. The dress, the ring, the décor, etc.
Wardrobe.
Clothing... I have two future wardrobes according to this site but since it looks like I will never be Prince Harry's wife, we can just jump right into my board titled, “Inside My Armoire”. Here you will find pieces that I would wear all day every day. Of course, I could go down to the nearest Nordstrom and purchase most of these items right now but it wouldn't be the same without coming home to my Pinterest Bedroom and trying them all on.
This site is very helpful for DIY's, meals, and birthday gifts which I am grateful for when my creativity has hit a wall but sometimes it can get overwhelming. While I was putting this together I learned that staying humble is key. These things are materialistic ideas and sure it's fun to dream and recreate unique aspects, but just like every other social media site, it can get to your head. Remain true and work hard for things that are needed and realistic, but also treat yourself every once in a while. Thank you, Pinterest, but no thanks!
