An Open Letter To My Friends Back Home

No, I did not forget about you.

An Open Letter To My Friends Back Home
David Shears

One of the toughest things about leaving for college was that I would have to leave everything I once knew behind, and literally start a new life. The hardest part was definitely having to go my separate ways with the friends I had throughout all of high school, and, of course, my family.

Months went by before I got to go back home and see all of my friends again. In that seemingly short amount of time, each one of them had something going on or experiences that I never knew occurred. It was so strange thinking that I once knew everything about my friends to having to play catch-up and see what their lives are currently like. It seemed as if these people I once knew so well were complete strangers with new friends and new stories to tell.

It was during fall break when I realized that life does not stop for anybody, and stuff would just not be what it used to be for a while.

I also realized that they felt the same way. I also made new friends, told new stories, and had new experiences to share that didn't involve them. Oftentimes, I noticed myself telling stories about my new friends at college, and telling inside jokes that my friends at home didn't quite understand.

The first break was definitely the hardest to adjust to, but after that, everything began to fall in place a lot better. I think we all realized that we may not always be up to date with everything that is going on, but we still all have love for each other and a bond that will not be broken.

I am extremely proud of each and every one of you, and I miss you all so much! Even though it seems like we barely talk I just want to let you all know that I think about you everyday, and I also tell my college friends stories about you as well! I hope you guys realize that I actually care, and that I did not just forget about you.

There are only two more months of the semester, and then we will all be back home for the summer. It may take some time to readjust again, but soon enough we will all be back to being partners-in-crime and having the same fun that we used to before college. I am counting down the days until I am reunited with you guys so we can make even more memories.

In the meantime, I hope everything is going amazingly, and you are having just as much fun at school as I am. After all, this is a once-in-a-lifetime experience, and we all need to live it up as much as possible. Even though I may not know what is going on, I can't wait to hear all of your crazy stories and even tell you some of my own.

Love,

Your friend that is eight hours away.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
