It’s Friday night and life’s great. I’m watching the Cosby Show and eating Chick-Fil-A. Season four, episode 21 for specifics. About 14 minutes and 15 seconds into the episode, Vanessa asks Theo a riddle. She says, and I quote, “If a plane crashed, right on the border between the United States and Canada, so that half the plane landed in the United States and half the plane landed in Canada, where would you bury the survivors?” I enjoy riddles and I enjoy a mild challenge from time, so I paused the show and thought about it. Where would they be buried? Hmmm….like the plane is in both countries, but I mean who knows where everybody is from?! I thought about it for a good 30 seconds before unpausing the show. Theo responds, and I quote, “Let’s see, the plane crashes half way between Canada and the United States..” (He looks as if he is in deep thinker mode at this point.) “What nationality is the pilot?” Vanessa responds “American.” Confused and seemingly looking for answers, Theo asks “Where does the luggage land?” Rudy, the youngest of the Huxtables, answers his question by saying “Half in Canada and half in the United States!” This is when you figure out Theo is kind of playing around. He tells Vanessa, “Well I’d have to say, that you’d bury the survivors…nowhere because you can’t bury survivors!” Theo then laughs it off as he goes upstairs to be a Huxtable and drink his orange juice for the rest of the episdode.
Dumbfounded, I began to question how intelligent I really am. “Maybe I’m not as smart as I thought I was,” I thought to myself. Then, I had a very smart idea. I was going to text a few of my friends this riddle to see if they too, would play themselves in the same manner I did. Here are the results.

Presidents of organizations are very sharp, this is evident according to these text exchanges. Onto the next.

This response from this friend caught me off guard, nonetheless I was relieved that I wasn't the only one who fell for this simplistic riddle.

"Wait Columbia is an Ivy league school right?" Ivy league schools these days.
Only 7 out of 18 of my friends avoided playing themselves. Out of those seven, only one was an Android user. Approximately 43% (6/14) of iPhone users caught on to the troll as compared to 25% (1/4) of Android users, which means that Team iPhone still reigns supreme in this war of mobile operating systems.
In conclusion, I wasn't the only one. Actually, the majority of my friends fell for it, which made me feel good, in a selfish way. (Laughing) I guess if we are going to be dumb, we are going to be dumb together, and that's what friends are for. Being dumb together.
Peace!
