Disneyland! I love Disneyland, just as much as any kid. Although I’m legally an adult now, the happiest place on Earth has not really changed from when I first went at age five. I still remember the Dumbo ride and Peter Pan’s ride; both attractions have been there from the very first opening day!
I’ve recently gone to Disneyland again, and found it almost exactly the same. It has a few additions that I love, but it is still the place I remember it to be. Although I love Disneyland, I know that it can be a hassle, so here are my favorite tips!
Follow the Boy’s Scouts and Be Prepared! I warn only against planning a ride list, bathroom breaks, or food options. There is always something that will change the plan, so plan up to the park, what you need to have on you in the park, and how to get home. Other than that, just try and enjoy your time there!
Now I know you will want to plan rides or fast passes, so you get on your favorites but be prepared for the unexpected. A kid may need a bathroom break while you are in line, or the ride (hopefully not) might be closed for a while if not the whole time you are there.
We all know what people hate the most at Disneyland. The lines! Those long long lines, which go on for miles. They make your feet hurt, they make kids grumpy, and you have to wait patiently or risk security (or looks from judgmental parents). There are a few ways to help with this little problem.
One: download a Disneyland wait time app. There is a ton to choose from but I have found that Wait Times for Disneyland by VersaEdge Software works great for me! People pay good money to create these free apps that let you know the accurate wait time for rides. I have only had one mistake, when a ride had five minutes for a wait time and was sadly closed. These apps also allow you to update the wait time or confirm it if you wish. I recommend that you do, because it is a free app and you get to help others trying to find the perfect time for their favorite ride!
Two: Be prepared again. Not everyone is going to have a Gameboy or other device, but books or games like "I spy" are great alternatives. Get creative, tell stories, and have others guess what they might see on the ride.
Remember, while the lines are long they are also a great time to rest. The park is bigger that you think or remember. Feet will hurt, but at least to get to catch your breath from running after your kids or to make that five minute line across the park!
If you can I would plan on your meals, maybe not the place but the type. When I go to Disneyland we have one sit down meal and one cart meal. It helps cut down the cost, keeps the kids going, and also gives you more time to do at least one cart meal there. I know I cannot leave without at least one turkey leg!
I would also bring a water bottle; water fountains are located near every ride! The water is metallic and treated with chemicals (still perfectly fine to drink!). I say this for anyone with a sensitive stomach or just hate the taste; you may want to buy bottled water from the carts.
I know people may not believe me, I certainly never believe the other Disney enthusiast when it came to this, but please use sun block. The layout of Disneyland allows people to get warmth from the sun, as well as light the park beautifully! However, it is sun and it can give you a burn. Be careful!
These are my favorite tips, but keep on the lookout for more! I always do!
