Last year I wrote an article about how much I love country music, providing a detailed list of my favorite country music songs. Well, guess what? It's a year later and I am still just as big of a country music stan as ever.
In the last few months, I have been listening to podcasts a lot more frequently, unfortunately putting my Spotify account on the backburner. Recently, I've been trying to listen to music more and it has reminded me just how good it truly is. Music has a way to evoke so many different emotions out of you, and it has helped me through so many ups and downs throughout my lifetime. However, no feeling compares to the chills that trickle down my spine after belting out the lyrics to my favorite country songs.
While I still love all of the songs I shared in last year's article, I thought I would provide an updated list of both some of the new songs that I have discovered as well as oldies that didn't make last year's cut.
"Snapback," Old Dominion
I saw Old Dominion this past summer and was honestly surprised with how much I loved their concert, making me a way bigger fan than I was before. I will never forget them opening the show with "Snapback," as it really was the best way to hype up the crowd. All of their songs are amazing, but this song in particular is extra good and catchy.
"Beer Can't Fix," Thomas Rhett and Jon Pardi
Thomas Rhett and Jon Pardi—a collab we never knew we needed. But this song is pretty true because there really ain't nothing that a beer (or a glass of wine)—and this song—can't fix.
"Hometown Girl," Josh Turner
This song is an oldie but a goodie and gives me a major throwback to when I first became really into country music (shoutout to car rides in summer 2017). Truly nothing tops a classic small-town country song.
"Tip of My Tongue," Kenny Chesney
Kenny Chesney has remained one of the most iconic country artists, as he is constantly outdoing himself with good music. This song has been one of my favs for a while and it definitely gets me in trouble when I am studying at the library or working out silently at the gym and all I want to do is belt it out (honestly all of the songs on this list do this to me).
"Somewhere In My Car," Keith Urban
You know how people say that there is nothing like driving with the windows down, blasting country music? Well I'm pretty sure that when they were describing that feeling, they were envisioning listening to this song.
"Big, Big Plans" Chris Lane
I'm not sure what's better—this song or the perfectly crafted, truly impeccable music video. For those of you who don't know, Chris Lane is now married to former Bachelor winner Lauren Bushnell and proposed to her in this video. While I loved her with Ben Higgins, I think that Chris Lane could have him beat. This song is truly goals and makes you yearn for the type of love that this couple has.
"The Bones," Maren Morris
I have absolutely nothing against women in country; in fact, I support it wholeheartedly. However, I would be lying if I didn't say that a majority of my favorite country songs are written by male artists, but this incredible harmony by the talented and beautiful Maren Morris is the exception. I really do love this song, and I love belting it out whenever it comes on the radio.
"Chasin' You," -Morgan Wallen
Morgan Wallen, in my opinion, is one of the most underrated country stars. He has a few hits that there is definitely a time and a place for, but I actually think I like some of his less popular music better, and if you listen to "Chasin' You," you will surely see what I mean.
"Slow Dance In A Parking Lot," Jordan Davis
One of my favorite things about country music is how easy artists are able to take a simple, pure moment and sing about it with so much passion. This song fits that mold perfectly, as Jordan Davis sings about quite literally "slow danc[ing] in a parking lot" with the girl of his dreams. The imagery used here is truly impeccable, as he sings, "Spinning you around by the Walmart sign, and moving our feet over the painted white lines," you can further see just how simply beautiful this moment is. Sorry, that sounds like I am literally writing an English essay right now, but I think you get the point.
"Good Vibes," Chris Janson
I feel like many of the songs I have listed here are slower, more powerful ballads, but "Good Vibes" is a perfect example of the other dimension of country—a good ol' bop you can jam out to at any day, any time.
"Anything She Says" -Mitchell Tenpenny and Seaforth
"Anything She Says" is my go-to for when I just want a soothing background song. Just a good, classic country jam that will never fail to make you smile.
"10,000 Hours," Dan + Shay and Justin Bieber
Dan + Shay is hands down my favorite duo in country. No matter how often I listen, I don't think I will ever get sick of their magical, chill-inducing voices. I had the privilege of seeing them in concert this past summer, and they truly blew me away. Now you throw Justin Bieber into the mix and you have a true powerhouse duo. While I could've chosen many of their less popular songs that I would want to draw attention to ("What Keeps You Up At Night" or "From the Ground Up"), there is a reason that "10,000 Hours" broke records of popularity. From the first listen, I knew I was already in love with this song, and I continue to love it the more that I listen.
"Even Though I'm Leaving," Luke Combs
Had to save one of the best for last. Luke Combs is by far one of the best country artists, who honestly has blown up insanely in the last year, and this song perfectly explains why. I had a lot of trouble picking just one Luke Combs song, as "Beer Never Broke My Heart" is a pretty close second. Not only does he have a powerful, classic country voice, but I think what makes Combs stand out the most is that he is also just an incredible lyricist. There are plenty of tear-jerkers in country music, but not many songs can also have such clever lyrics attached to it as "Even Though I'm Leaving."
Alright, it's been two articles filled with some of my all-time favorite songs. If you haven't found at least one you like yet, there is probably something seriously wrong with you. Seriously nothing makes me happier than country music which is why I love being able to share it through my writing. I cannot wait for another summer of hopefully checking off more of my favorite artists to see in concert, but we will enjoy the good tunes until then.
