The following list contains my personal favorite horror films in no particular order. It's difficult for one to narrow down the best horror film of all time, which is a topic to be discussed at another time. Everyone has their own opinion of what a great horror film is. As a result, feel free to voice out your own opinions. Without further ado, let's begin.
1. "The Exorcist"
The film is about a young a girl named Regan who starts acting odd. She begins to speak in a different dialect, and strange occurrences begin to rise. Her distraught mother looks for help at near hospitals with no success. A series of events begin to unfold, and it seems that Regan may be possessed by a demonic spirit. With the help of a local priest and a professional exorcist, the climatic events begin to unfold. This film is not scary by today's standards but is still a worthy candidate. Regan's "other half" is rather disturbing, and her overall face is disgusting. It's just a staple in the horror genre. Furthermore, the soundtrack is quite different from today's movies and contains synth vibes.
2. "The Shinning"
Here's Johnny! Jack Nicholson deliver's an amazing acting performance as the winter caretaker of a hotel in Colorado. He begins to have "cabin fever," and disturbing sightings begin to appear. Unfortunately, his family begins to suffer the consequences of his maniacal behavior. The film is an iconic piece of movie history—a true rollercoaster of a ride from start to finish.
3. "Chucky: Child's Play"
When I was younger I would get terrible nightmares of Chucky chasing me. This was back in 1999. I was terrified of seeing the toy anywhere—now, not so much. The film is one of my favorites because it keeps viewers at the edge of their seats. It is exemplary as to what a great horror film should be like because it put's you into the perspective of a young doll. It's gruesome at times, not that I enjoy watching that. It's just a great film to watch when you are up for some jumpscares or feeling bored.
4. "The Conjuring"
The conjuring is based on a true story and just that phrase scares the living soul out of me. The story follows Edward and Lorraine Warren, a pair of 1970s paranormal investigators, who investigate the evil history of a family's house. The macabre events that are uncovered are horrendous and frightening—a true classic for many horror fanatics.
5. "Halloween"
The first time we are introduced to Michael Myers is in this slasher film. His emotionless face and thirst for murder makes this one of the creepiest films of all time. He just keeps coming at you, and even though you try to run away he's always behind you. A true definition of a stalker. The soundtrack is remarkable and distinguishable. "Halloween" is undeniably a classic in today's cinema.
There're so many great horror films that aren't listed such as "A Nightmare on Elm Street" or perhaps "Insidious." Enjoy this a small collection of some of my favorite Halloween films that I encourage you to view. Happy Halloween!
