It may be 8 hours, but it's pretty great.

My Experience With An 8-To-5 Internship

I recently started a full time, remote marketing internship that runs from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. I just finished my second week and it's going really well. Because of this incredible new experience, there is so much to share about the impact of this internship and how it's helping my career.

Learning about marketing

I started my remote summer internship with FPL Energy Services, which provides home services such as lighting and air conditioners, as well as home warranty plans. By the end of my second week, I had learned plenty of new information about these services and how FPLES provides services that power your home.

Aside from the previous knowledge I had of marketing, I started to learn more specifics of each team member's role. Whether it was data analytics or social media, copywriting, or budgeting, there was something new to learn about marketing based on each team member's specialty.

Networking... a lot

If I could sum up my first two weeks in one word, it would be networking. I took the initiative to schedule virtual one-on-one meetings with different employees, whether it was those on the marketing team or the lead team of FPLES.

I was nervous at first because, for me, networking could be intimidating. However, everyone was incredibly friendly and helpful, explaining what their roles were and offering valuable advice for interns. It was also great getting to learn more about the different avenues you could take with the company.

Perfecting the art of taking breaks

I'll be honest: working eight hours was new to me and definitely had me tired by the end of each day. However, I've slowly been learning how to handle it by stretching and taking short breaks every 30 minutes. It gets my body moving, rather than sitting in one spot, yet I can still get back to my work a few minutes later.

Everyone always says to take breaks, but I never understood what to do during those breaks. I started doing some deep breathing, walking around the house, and stretching to clear my mind and give my body a break from sitting.

Ultimately, this experience has given me time to network and learn about marketing, but it has also been a lot of fun. I am so happy with this experience and am excited to see what happens next.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
