Today we have things like Tinder, Bumble and Match.com that young professionals can meet people on, but back in the day, I guess all they had was the good ole newspaper. People actually used to put personal ads in the newspaper and people actually used to answer them and that is just how my parents met.
This is a picture of the actual ad in the actual newspaper that my mom submitted. She was a DWPF (divorced white professional female) who was 26. She also described herself as an attractive petite blonde who didn't smoke and was seeking a SDWPM (single divorced white professional male) who was between the ages of 25-33. He also had to be a non-smoker who enjoys movies, theatre, boating, friends & family and finally he must not be bald nor fat. Well despite my dad being 34 and a smoker he answered her ad because hey at least he wasn't bald nor fat.
I guess it was a normal day for my mom when she decided to resort to the newspaper to find love. My mom tells me she had many responses to her ad, but my dad was the only one she pursued. So after some convincing by her friends and coworkers she went on a date with my dad and the rest is history.
Until I was 13 they had me convinced they met in a grocery store. I don’t know why they were embarrassed to tell me the real story. Maybe it’s because my mom actually put out an ad about herself or that my dad was actually looking at the personal ads and actually would answer them. Well whatever the case I’m proud of mom for knowing exactly what she wanted when it came to looks.
I mean how many people get to say their parents met through an ad in the newspaper? My parents are the funniest people ever so honestly this doesn't surprise me one bit. They have been married for 22 years and just in case anyone was wondering my dad is still not bald or fat.
