My College Bucket List

My College Bucket List

It’s that time of the year again for new school year resolutions! Oh and this year, it’s going to be different, right?

We have the same old goals such as studying more and getting good grades, making new friends, being more “facey”, or even rushing and going Greek. Whatever that may be, it is a challenge to accomplish our lofty goals, but indeed it is possible if we are determined, devoted, and disciplined. However, this year is going to be different for me.

It is probably the saddest, nerve-wracking, yet exciting year of any student’s college career, the year you graduate. I will finish and earn my degree in May of 2015 at the University of Central Florida and now I understand it when people say they have no idea what they are going to do after they graduate. Still, I’m keeping calm because I know I have done exceptionally well throughout my time here at UCF with getting involved and gaining experience in my field of study. So, there is no reason why I should not feel confident about the future; but the future is not what necessarily concerns me. Being a transfer student, I have a shorter time to be at UCF than those who started out here their freshman year. So, that’s why this year I have complied a bucket list of things to do before I graduate; and hopefully I will succeed in completing the list:
*(Disclaimer: This is not a complete list due to tasks that may be mischievous, or awkwardly unacceptable in society.)*

1) Spirit Splash

How could I call myself a Knight if I did not participate in our proudest homecoming tradition? I just don’t want to look back and wish I had done it.

2) Watch the "Running of the Bulls" (Bid Day)

I actually already completed this task before the semester began. It was exciting to see all the potential new members running to their new houses, which they probably felt excited and nervous about at the same time. Fraternities line up and cheer the girls on. Hopefully, if they're lucky like me, they chose the right chapter.

3) Run through the reflection pond at night

You are not supposed to be in the reflection pond except for Spirit Splash, but it’s one of those things that would make a good story later on in life. Some say this is foolish, I say you only live once. So, enjoy life while you are young with less restraints.

4) Go to another school’s tailgate (Examples: UF & FSU)

UCF home games are great because that’s when we can tailgate, but I definitely have to check out other school’s tailgates. Also, it is great way to meet a different crowd of people.

5) Go to a St. Patrick party at a local bar

I admit, I’m not the party boy in the fraternity, but I do like to go out and turn up! I can only image how it would be after seeing all the pics on Facebook and Instagram. Besides, I’m the “Luck” of the Irish.

6) Go to an EDM concert

I just want to see what the noise is all about concerts like this. I can dig some electronic, but we’ll see how long that will last.

7) Go on a spring break cruise

This task is a must. After seeing all the fun everyone had last spring break, I definitely want to get on the action. Besides, I don’t think anyone can get turnt up like I can.

8) Participate in Sigma Nu’s 5K Undie Run

It’s probably a weird thing to run in your underwear, but it’s for a good cause. This is socially and legally acceptable.

9) Play an IM sport for my fraternity

I’ve been so busy with other organizations and activities outside my fraternity, that I have not been able to participate in any of the intramural sports. But I still have some life and strength to show these young bucks how it’s done.

10) Win Mr. UCF Scholarship Pageant

Of course winning Mr. UCF would be great, but it's much more than just a goal. Last year’s experience gave me something to be proud about being a UCF Knight. All of the contestants were awesome and prime examples of what is to be a Knight and I was privileged to have had the opportunity to participate in the pageant with them. We’ve gotten to know each other quite well through the process of preparing for the pageant. It was contestants like Olivia Vaughn-Flam, a Kappa Delta sorority sister, that made me realize that we all have a special cause and purpose to accomplish in our lives. She and I took first runner up in our respective pageants, and we both hope this year will be our time to represent the school that we care about passionately.

I don’t what this year will have in store for us, but it is our year to define. Whether you are going through a slump in your college career at the moment, starting a new chapter at UCF, or just trying to finish, just remember that we have an opportunity that many are not privileged to enjoy or have. So, I hope everyone takes advantage of making and creating their own college experience because once you graduate, that’s it.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Whether you met your new love interest online, through mutual friends, or another way entirely, you'll definitely want to know what you're getting into. I mean, really, what's the point in entering a relationship with someone if you don't know whether or not you're compatible on a very basic level?

Consider these 21 questions to ask in the talking stage when getting to know that new guy or girl you just started talking to:

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
