My eyes fell in my room's trash and I found a yellowish paper folded in quarters unsigned.
I started reading it but it turned out to be a grocery list that reads like this:
4 mint ice-cream
4 crepes
4 small apple pies
I was about to put the paper back in the trash until I noticed at the end of the list was written:
1 spoon
The first thing I wondered - how would four people eat ice-cream and pie with only one spoon? Will they share it? Or is this for one person but they wanted four of everything?
But then I noticed the letter was unsigned which means I will not be able to know who exactly wrote this. The only thing that could tell me about the identity of that crazy person is their handwriting, but it would look stupid of me to bring families and friends to match their handwriting with this recipe. So I threw it back in the trash and went on with my life.
The next day, I found the same yellowish paper sitting on the kitchen counter of my friend's house, so I had to ask, "Did you write this?"
"No," she said. Hmm, weird, same letter but still unsigned. Thank God my friend and I were about to leave the house to see some Christmas lights, but I realized that I forgot my scarf inside her house so I ran quickly inside her house to get my belongings. I noticed her little sister standing on a chair to reach the kitchen counter and holding a pen in her hand signing that paper, so I had to ask, "Did you write this paper?"
"Yes," she said, "I just found the pen I was looking for to sign it."
So I said, "How are four people going to eat 4 ice-creams with only one spoon?"
She laughed and said, "All four are for me and my dolls."
I smiled and invited her to come with us to see the lights.
This Christmas, I'm taking time to notice the unnoticed.
