When you talk about soul mates, most people assume that you're talking about the person you're romantically involved with your Prince Charming or the love of your life. Naturally, this is what I thought too for so long. But come to find out, my soulmate isn't "Mr. Right," Prince Charming, or the love of my life -- but my hell of a best friend. As I've gotten older, I have realized that a soulmate is simply a person who gets you and who just understands you on a whole other level than most other people. For me, that person is my best friend. She's my A1 and my partner in crime. She is the Christina Yang to my Meredith Grey. Here's to you, best friend.
She is my soulmate in the way that we can just sit in each other's presence and be aware of what the other is feeling or thinking. She is my soulmate in the many 2 a.m. car rides going nowhere, just finding comfort in the drive. And sometimes we talk about whatever it is that's on our minds, and sometimes we just drive in silence and that's enough. She gets me and I get her.
She is my soulmate in the summer nights when we would sneak into the apartment pool after hours, eating a Wendy's 10-piece while our legs dangled in the water. We would just sit, talking about how beautiful and unpredictable and complicated life is.
We can look at each other and without saying anything, and know we are laughing at the same thing. She can look at me, and she knows if something is bothering me, even when I try to hide it. And often times, she knows exactly what it is. When we fight, we aren't afraid to say exactly what we feel because we know that holding things in doesn't do either one of us any good. And we know that things will work themselves out.
We are soul mates in our shared love for pink Moscato, Waffle House, and road trips. She shows me songs that become my favorites, and she knows the songs I hate. When we need help, we are each other's person to go to. She is my shoulder to lean on when I need it and never fails to cheer me up.
I have shared the scariest night of my life with her, and some of the saddest ones too. We have shared some of the most hysterical laughs. And for all of the reasons and many more, my best friend is my soulmate. She is my person.
