Growing up, I was always a happy lil girl. I grew up in a small town with my mom and dad, and my older brother. There are roughly around four and a half years between my older brother and I, which I loved when I was younger. We could play outside together, go swimming, ride bikes, and a few times, he even let me play army with him. Life was great, but everything changed when I was 12 years old.
My parents announced to my brother and I that there was going to be a new addition to the family. Initially, I was hoping it would be a puppy, because who doesn't love doggos?! Unfortunately, though, it wasn't a lil doggo. Instead, it would be a little sibling.
Once my parents told us we would have a little brother or sister, I immediately broke down. I was devastated and I thought we would have to move houses, which I did not want to do. Luckily, that wasn't the case. We didn't have to move because we had another room at our current house that was our office and we could just convert it into a room for a girl or a boy. About halfway through my mom's pregnancy, I started getting excited. The more I thought about it, the more I was looking forward to having a little munchkin around, someone I could play with and talk to.
The doctor told my mom that she was expected to give birth January, 2010. He also said that we were going to have a little brother! And even though I wanted a little sister instead, I was also happy I was still going to be a big sister. My dreams of having another sibling were finally coming true. Little boy or little girl, we didn't really care as long as we had a happy and healthy baby.
On December 19, 2009, our lives changed forever. I was sitting in the waiting room of the hospital, waiting for my little brother to make his appearance into this world. He decided he didn't want to wait until January, he wanted to be here in time for Christmas. He was, and still is, the best Christmas gift both me and my family have ever received. He was a beautiful baby, weighing in at 6 pounds, 7 ounces and he was 19 inches long.
On this day, my life was forever changed. I would no longer be the baby, he would be. We named him Aiden and kept the 'A' train going. There is quite a years' difference between my little brother and I, but I know for a fact that I would not have it any other way. He is a miracle and the light of my life. He has taught me so much in his seven years here on Earth. He has taught me how to be gentle and soft, he has been there for me when I have had no one else to turn to.
I don't care how many years are between us, he is and will always be my very best friend. He is such a smart and caring young man and I am so blessed to be his big sister. Plus, there are also perks to having little siblings. It's not acceptable for a twenty year old to hit up the prize box after the dentist or the doctor, but he can, and he sneaks me by to get a prize too. ;) Aiden has shown me unconditional love and I will be thankful for him always.
My best friend is 13 years younger than me and I am not ashamed to admit that. Through life's trials and tribulations, he will always be the one I turn to for help and forgiveness, love and sorrow, and he is the one who picks me up when I fall.
