If you ever find yourself in between shows, or endlessly staring at the Netflix screen, I have just the list for you. I'm a bit obsessed with documentaries, maybe it's the sense of realism, or just being able to make myself more aware of things. So if you're anything like me, you'll enjoy these documentaries.
Blackfish
This has to be one of my all time favorite documentaries. I have watched this at least three times, and each time I seem to find out more information about Sea World. It is definitely an eye-opening documentary and will make you think twice about ever going to Sea World.
Making A Murderer
M.A.M. has been all over the internet recently, and people have all sorts of opinions about it. I'm not here to discuss mine, just that I recommend you watch it so that you can form your own opinion. I watched the entire season in one day, and there's ten episodes. Every episode leaves you hanging, so I suggest watching it on a day that you have absolutely nothing planned.
Dear Zachary
This doc will make you feel things you've never felt before. Happiness, sadness, anger, etc. It'll also make you want to hug your loved ones. It's very plot twisting, and will definitely make you want to write a letter to the director.
The Nightmare
This doc is unlike the rest on this list. It focuses on people who have sleep paralysis and their spine chilling stories that come from it. It is a more sinister documentary, but nonetheless informative. It definitely makes a better thriller, knowing what happens to them is true.
Matt Shepard Is a Friend of Mine
This doc really just makes you appreciate your loved ones and realize how precious life really is. It's about one of the most horrendous hate crime against Matt Shepard, who was gay, and how unfortunate it was for the innocent boy's life to be cut so short.
The Imposter
Now this doc is very turning. A loved one shows up again after years of being missing, only to be acting ... different. This doc is much larger than what it seems, and it's almost hard to believe that this is a true story. So if you're anything like me, you'll be totally into this disturbing thriller.
Jesus Camp
I'm not very religious, so this documentary was very eye-opening. These poor kids are having intense information drilled into their heads, and it leaves you feeling helpless. You wonder how people can actually believe these things, and how selfish they have to be to implement it into the children.
Alive Inside
With music, elders are able to reconnect with things. It is so inspiring to see these elders, who suffer from Alzheimers, regain memory through the use of music. It goes to show how advanced our brains really are, but sometimes we just need that extra kick to activate it all.
Miss Representation
Black Mirror
This isn't under the genre "Docs & Docuseries" but what it entails is futuristic realism. One of my friends describes it as, "It's a dark satire on the future of us as humans and technology and society. Like standards and what will become acceptable at some point that isn't acceptable now." This doc will definitely get you thinking.
All of these are available now on Netflix, and are all highly rated. Documentaries are a great way to learn more, with a great twist to make it interesting instead of just spurting facts and information. I can't help but binge on documentaries.
Once one is over, I go to the "More Like This" tab and search for more. Some are so interesting that I'll go online afterwards to search for it just to ensure that it's real. Grab some food and check these docs out if you ever find yourself with nothing to do.
