Do You Agree or Disagree With The "Muslim Ban"

Let me start off with saying that I'm NOT a political person whatsoever. But this is something that I saw on the news this morning that simply infuriated me.

After the recent deadly shooting in Orlando, Florida that killed 50 people, (now making this the most deadly mass shooting in history since Virginia Tech in April 2007) Donald Trump responds with the proposed "Muslim Ban." Where, once he is elected president, he will ban Muslims from immigrating to the United States. Do you think this is a good idea? It seems prejudicial to me. Not every mass murderer and/or terrorist is Muslim. Is Trump being prejudicial to a religion? Is this really going to solve all of the nation's terrorist attacks?

Trump says that he wants to ban immigration from countries with a "history of terrorism." What nations have a history of terrorism? Better question!!! What nations DON'T have that history? I can only think of a small list. And guess what- AMERICA ISN'T ON THAT LIST!

When we think back to the major attacks that our nation has gone through that were or could be seen as terrorist attacks, how many of those were committed by Muslims? Alright, lets think about this with just a few of the many examples that could be used:

1. Columbine High School Massacre in April 1999:

Seniors Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold killed 12 fellow students and a teacher, as well as injured 21 others. Both Harris and Klebold were AMERICANS- born in Colorado and Kansas.

2. 9/11 Attack:

15 of the 19 were from Saudi Arabia. But the remainder of them were from Egypt, Lebanon, and United Arab Emirates. NONE of the hijackers were Muslims. Still one of the most recognized and remembered terrorist attacks.

3. Virginia Tech Shooting in April 2007:

The shooter, Seung-Hui Cho, was South Korean. Again- NOT Muslim. This is now the second most deadly mass shooting with 32 people killed and 17 injured.

4. Aurora, Colorado Movie Theater Shooting in July 2012:

12 people were killed and 70 others were injured when shooter, James Holmes, went into a midnight screening of The Dark Knight Rises and began shooting. Holmes was an AMERICAN- born in California.

5.Sandy Hook Elementary School Shooting in December 2012:

Shooter, Adam Lanza, killed 20 children and 6 adults. Lanza was an AMERICAN- born in New Hampshire.

Now let's look at the Orlando Nightclub shooter and compare it to this narrow list I gave of shooters.

*Orlando Nightclub Shooting in June 2016:

50 people killed and 53 injured. Shooter Omar Mateen was American born to Afghan parents. He swore allegiance to the Islamic State of Iraq and Levant. He was raised as a Muslim.

Can the nation say it's a good idea to support the Muslim Ban that Trump has created? If the presidents of the past had banned people of this religion before, would it have prevented any of these deadliest shootings and terrorist attacks that scarred our nation the most in the past? Sure, it could have prevented the Orlando Shooting, but no one can be absolutely sure of that.

Our presidential candidates can't use the Orlando shooting as a way to prevent terrorist attacks by itself. That's a very narrow-minded method to diminish our nation's problem with terrorism.

As the very popular saying goes, we can judge an entire group or religion by the actions of one sole individual.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
