With 2016 thankfully coming to a close, here is a list of some musical theater songs for your new year's resolutions:
1. Corner of The Sky - Pippin

Dream of doing something big this year? This song's ambitious lyrics are a great start to kick off the year. Pippin, just out of schooling, now questions how to give his life meaning. And although he may not know how to do it, Pippin knows he wants to live his life in a blaze of glory.
Notable lyric: "Don't you see I want my life to be something more than long?"
2. The Life of The Party - The Wild Party

My own personal resolution for this upcoming year is to cut loose a bit more and afford myself some fun. Idina Menzel's Kate in "The Wild Party" characterizes my resolution confidently. During a prohibition party, she raises a glass to living life to the fullest.
Notable lyric: "All I need is room to fight, hand in fisted glove! Point me towards the sky, it's my turn to fly."
3. Good Morning Baltimore Reprise - Hairspray
Another compelling song for conquering ambitious tasks in 2017. Tracy faces so many challenges in trying to integrate The Corny Collins Show in 1960's Baltimore, but this song is a great reminder that you can still create change even in times of duress.
Notable lyric: "I'll eat some breakfast then change the world!"
4. Too Much Too Soon - American Idiot The Musical
Did you really think I'd forget to include a song from American Idiot? In the middle of a domestic argument that's getting heated, Heather leaves her boyfriend, Will, who cannot support her or their newborn daughter anymore. This vengeful track is perfect for leaving toxic people in 2016 and moving towards bettering yourself.
Notable lyric: "She packs her bags and says goodbye and bon voyage. Farewell, we'll see you in hell. I hope you rest in pieces."
5. Make Them Hear You - Ragtime
With our nation's political future looking incredibly dim as we get closer to our upcoming inauguration, I firmly believe that this anthem rings incredibly true today. Sung by Coalhouse, a black man searching for justice against discrimination in the early 20th century, this song is unapologetic and chilling.
Notable lyrics: "And say to those who blame us for the way we chose to fight, that there are battles which are more than black and white." "My path may lead me to heaven or hell, and God will say what's best. But one thing that he will never say is that I went quietly to my rest."
