Music is a universal language through which many ideas and cultures are presented. Some might find that music has a strong presence in their daily routines, whether that be listening to music on their way home, or trying to hit those high notes in the shower. While some are just listening to catchy choruses and complex melodies, others grasp the deeper meanings that are embedded in song, creating a connection between the music and personal feeling. This occurrence has forced music to be implemented into different aspects of our lives, as the effect of a good song can catch the attention of any who values musicality. While music is extremely beneficial to any who chooses to listen, it can also be a detriment. This makes music your best friend, and your worst enemy.
As a best friend, music has always proven that it will be there when you need it. People play music when they are feeling happy or joyful, as it helps to maintain their level of happiness, and keep the mood light and relaxing. I want you to think about the last time that you decided to go shopping with friends or family and answer this question: What music did we play on the way to the store? I am no psychic, but I am confident that you played music with a fast tempo, and lyrics that made you feel good about what you were going to. This happens because the joyous tone of the music amplifies the fact that you are doing something that already makes you happy. It reminds you in that moment that life is full of good times to cherish, which is definitely what a best friend is for. While music compliments the good times, it can be your worst enemy during bad times.
The influence of music in society is very evident. So the choice of what music you choose to play during bad times is key. Many people will choose to play music when they are down or depressed. In this state, you are vulnerable, which makes it more likely for you to want to be comforted. So, if you choose to play music which is gloomy and dreary instead of uplifting, it will amplify the level of sadness and depression that you feel. This will cause you even more stress, and you wont realize it because of your personal connection to what the music is planting inside of you. In addition, some musicians offer the wrong ideas through their music. Whether you realize it or not, they will change the way you see your situations because they are telling you what you want to hear versus what you need to hear. Music, in this instance, has hindered you instead of helping you, making it your enemy.
There are many people who won't understand the power of music, while there are many who use it's influence for their benefit. If there is any advice I can leave you with, it's to choose the music that you listen to in different situations wisely. Music can easily make any situation an enjoyable one, but the wrong songs will pull you deeper into holes that you shouldn't be in. And remember, enemies tell you what you want to hear, and friends tell you what you need to hear.
