Music videos have long been an outlet that musical artists or groups use to express the artistry of their songs and give the listener a glimpse into the vision the artist has for a song. Hip-hop/rap music has been on the rise, and with that are a steady creation of ground-breaking, exceptional videos.
A$AP Rocky, who is a popular rapper that is also huge in the world of high-fashion, is one artist who has continually produced beautiful videos that take the listener into the colorful, elaborate, and innovative world of A$AP Rocky and the A$AP mob.
1. Yamborghini High
This song, which is by the A$AP Mob and featuring Juicy J, has become a huge hit with almost 50 million views on Youtube. The video features an almost "other-worldly" quality with glitch graphics and technicolor that keeps the viewer entranced. The song's fun and catchy style reflects into the video with the crew laughing and jumping around. At the end of the video, the scene falls down to reveal the set of the music video and end that "other-worldly" effect. It doesn't seem to matter though, because the A$AP mob is still smiling whether it was real or not.
2. Love$ick
A$AP Rocky teams up with Mura Masa, who is a British electronic music producer, to create this track. The video centers around the exciting lives three young teenage boys living in England. Symmetric, almost Wes Anderson like, shots make the video extremely unique and captivating. The boys are constantly laughing and bonding together, which can't help but make the viewer feel a sense of nostalgia.
3. L$D (LOVE x $EX x DREAMS)
This is one of A$AP Rocky's most popular songs, with more than 50 million views on Youtube. The video is based off the 2009 film "Enter the Void", which is about a man living in Tokyo who gets shot but follows his out of body experience after death. The video is co-directed by Rocky himself, as are a lot of his other videos. L$D features colorful neon lights and "trippy" graphics that correspond perfectly with the feeling of the song. In the middle of the video it cuts to an interlude of "Excuse Me" by A$AP Rocky, and features Rocky looking down into a mirror. It's a perfect interlude within the video, and fits the "Enter the Void" feeling just right.
Although only three music videos were discussed, there are so many more A$AP Rocky and other A$AP Mob music videos that are equally as incredible and creative. The mob is just one of many rap artists that are pushing new boundaries both musically and visually. Mad respect for A$AP.
