You know that one song, that when you hear it, you’ll either cry, or reminisce on the happiness that comes to mind when it’s playing? Nothing or no one can understand you quite like music does.
Have you ever thought about the fact that music is something almost every single person has heard? It may not be that summer country song, or the newest JB album, but everyone has their own form of music. It’s something that connects us all. People from opposite sides of the planet could listen to something and recognize it as music. The rhythm and beat is something we can all hear even if we may not be able to understand the words.
It’s something that has been around for thousands of years. Something that has not gone away, and if anything, has continued to grow and inspire us even more as the years go on. You see packed music festivals where people from all over will come and gather to listen. Complete strangers making a connection through music. Everyone is there for the same reason, differences put aside to listen and interact.
In church, it brings congregations together. It can move religious as well as non-religious people. It can create an inspiration and feeling in someone that even a pastor or leader cannot do. You see people from all over coming to Christian concerts, from all different backgrounds. And more often than not, they leave changed and impacted in some way.
Music can be something you keep to yourself. As a way to communicate and make sense of your own thoughts and feelings. It can make you feel a variety of emotions. That one song can either break your heart or create a smile on your face that never seems to fade. It can be something you share with someone special. Sharing music with them means sharing a piece of yourself. It can be a way of telling them what you’re thinking because you can’t quite put it into words to make sense. A song can do all of this, and half of the time we don’t even realize it.
Music can be a form of therapy to us. Songs and playlists based on moods and circumstances. It can help us through loss, breakups, emptiness, depression, and just plain hard times. It also has the power to brighten our day, excite us, make us want to dance, smile, and laugh. The fact that something like this can instantly change our emotions and mood is something pretty impressive, and really, nothing else has the same effect.
Music is another form of communication. It is a language everyone can understand. Something that brings this much unity, it makes sense why it has been around since the beginning. There is nothing quite as fulfilling and enjoyable as music.
