Imagine being somewhere that you don’t want to be. You are in a stuffy room with people whose company you don’t particularly enjoy, and it seems like nothing will be able to get you through. What about an awkward car ride? A deafening silence fills the air, some words are exchanged between the driver and the passenger, but nothing more than small talk. What could possibly enhance these situations and allow one to be taken back to a better time? Music. Music is a mental getaway. For me, it is easy to escape through sweet sounds that allow my mind to take a tropical vacation.Turning on a quality song is equivalent to sitting on an island beach and basking in the sun. Unless of course, you can do both, in which case definitely sit on a beach and listen to incredible music.

Whether I am trying to zone out while completing an assignment, attempting to cure my bad mood, or searching for inspiration during a workout- there is a track out there that will give me the strength to do it all. The greatest thing about music is its ability to transform. The fact that by putting on one song that tugs at my emotions just enough, the dark cloud over my head can disappear is almost miraculous. Music is cathartic. By selecting a certain song and stepping outside, you are setting up a soundtrack to your life. This song may even allow for not only a shift in attitude but also a rise in productivity and a more take charge approach to everyday tasks. Music is an experience. It forges connections with people that you would otherwise never make. There is no better feeling than when someone turns on your favorite song, only to declare it as their all time song of choice. Happiness fills the air, and you and your newfound music friend can now ride off into the sunset together, all because you have a similar taste in music.

So forget uncomfortable situations, stuffy gatherings, and cringeworthy car rides. Turn on your favorite song and wait for it to transport you to a beach in the middle of nowhere. Go ahead, put on an incredible playlist, or take a trip to a beach somewhere, your choice.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
