Music. Everyone has a preference. You can be one of those typical white girls who knows every word to every pop song on the radio (guilty). Your preference could be to crank up country music and just relax. You could also be one of those who's a hardcore rap fan and can impress your friends by rapping the lyrics. Whatever you like, music has a special place in your heart with you. Music also hold memories as well. It flashes me back to events and times that I hold close to me.
There is the music that reminds of childhood, a simpler time. Remember that song you use to listen to when you were little? The song that your parents made you listen because they had control of the radio and there was no way they were listening the music that you liked. Now, you love that song. It reminds you of when there were no responsibilities like rent or bills. You also have that one embarrassing annoying little song that you obssessed over as a child. Everyone has their embarrassing music that used to drive their parents up the wall. You used to sing it so loudly that your parents covered their ears because you obviously had a fantastic singing voice.
There are also the songs that remind you of friends and the good times you had. Remember that time you stayed up all night to finish math homework that was supposed to take you a month to do? A true friend who was in the same boat decided to join you in your sleepless nightmare and stayed up all night with you. Her brilliant idea that night was to crank old rap songs to keep the both of you guys awake because what else are you going to listening to while regretting your procrastination. You never know, that friend could be one of your forever friends that you now call for advice when your life is a wreck and you don’t know what to do. There also may be that theme song to the show you and your roommate decided to stay up until 5 a.m. watching, the night before a final, because she was having a bad day and needed your company. You remember the look on her face when she realized what time it was and the conversations that took place that night. True friendship means you will go to the ends of the earth for people.
However, songs can bring back bad times, as well. There may be that song that reminds you of that one guy who you just can’t get out of your head, no matter what you do. You may turn off the radio every time the radio decides it is going to be your enemy that day and play that horrible song yet again. You also remember the song that was playing when you had your first car wreck. The look that your father gave to you that day will forever remain in your brain, and make you a safer driver. Well, you try a little harder at least.
Music may also remind you of past friendships. Throwback to the ti,me you guys blasted that ridiculous pop song, could actually be in the same room, and talk about absolutely nothing. You tend to miss that person but you have remind yourself that there is a reason he or she is not in your life anymore. It is weird to think that people can be so significant in your life and then disappear completely from it. the next.
All in all, music has a way of flashing us back to the past. Whether it be good or bad memories, we always remember them and hold them close to our hearts.
