Winter is coming. And I’m serious this time, despite previous winters here in California that have only resulted in sunny 70 degree weather. El Nino is coming and what better way to embrace all the rain than prepping yourself with sweater weather music and holiday cheer? This week’s Music Mondaze is a list of all the winter essential albums for your upcoming holiday break.
1. Foxygen’s, “We Are the 21st Century Ambassadors of Peace & Magic.”
Eloquent and soothing sounds that bring me back to the sixties even though I wasn’t alive until three decades later.
2. Sport’s, “All of Something.”
A colorful album, this song specifically is just kind of sad.
3. The Neighbourhood’s, “I Love You.”
Naturally…
4. She & Him’s, “ A Very She & Him Christmas.”
Even if you don’t celebrate Christmas, this album still manages to fill hearts with love because Zooey Deschanel has that effect.
5. Bon Iver’s, “For Emma, Forever Ago.”
Imagine having a whole album written for you by Justin Vernon. Just imagine.
6. Fleet Foxes’, “Fleet Foxes.”
This album makes me want to wrap myself in a burrito blanket and lay next to a log fire.
7. Arcade Fire’s, “Funeral.”
If they’re not writing songs about the suburbs, they’re writing songs about growing up and that just hits me with the wintertime blues.
8. Radiohead’s, “OK Computer.”
Of their discography, "OK Computer" definitely feels like it reflects most with the winter season.
9. BØrns’, “Dopamine.”
His voice is extremely angelic and this album conjures up feelings and memories of my youth.
10. Alex Turner’s, “Submarine.”
An EP that’s the epitome of winter.
