In 2012, Melody Prochet, French psychedelic rock musician, released her first solo LP, "Melody's Echo Chamber."The self-titled debut album, released by Fat Possum Records, features psychedelic sounds with the perfect utilization of synth.
It was produced by Kevin Parker of Tame Impala, and the pair worked primarily in Parker's Perth studio in Australia. It's easy to tell the clear influence Parker had on Prochet, as a majority of the album emulates that of Tame Impala-esque sound. While Tame Impala features more rough-sounding synths, Prochet truly and successfully achieves a natural, dream-pop sound.
Prochet uses a mixture of English and French lyrics that are equally captivating. Prochet's voice perfectly intertwines with the dreamy instrumentals, the two aspects meshing well to form a warm and lo-fi-sounding range.
"Quand Vas Tu Rentrer," or, in English, "When Will You Come Back," is a favorite among fans, enamoring listeners with a whimsical and playful approach in its noticeable synchronization with drums and synth. Prochet exercises her use of a vocoder exceptionally, accenting the track especially well.
"I Follow You," possibly the most Tame Impala-sounding song on the album, features Parker on drums and bass guitar, along with a solo guitar riff from the legend himself. The song is the perfect balance of softness in lyrics and dreamy, inspired vocals. While Prochet shows a lot of influence from Tame Impala, she is an artist in her own right, completely herself throughout the album. It is her masterpiece and her own distinctive sound that is successfully shown through this debut album.
