Music I Loved In 2015

A glimpse into some of the songs that went into my over 40,000 minutes of listening this year.

Music I Loved In 2015

In no particular order...

1. "Heavydirtysoul" - Twenty One Pilots

This song was one of my most listened to on Spotify in 2015, and I am still obsessed. It's the perfect mix of the "rappy, edgy funk" that I love about Twenty One Pilots but it is also so extremely catchy. If this song comes on in my car, you better know I'm singing along. PS: The whole album titled "Blurryface" is fantastic. Other notable songs: "Fairly Local," "The Judge andTruce"

2. "Like a River Runs" - Bleachers

I really started loving Bleachers after I saw them perform at Bunbury Music Festival this past summer. "Like a River Runs" is one of my favorite songs of all time, not just 2015 because it has two things that I love: a message and a story. It makes me feel powerful and I love that.

3. "All These Things That I've Done" - The Killers

Bless this song. See nearly all of my social media blurbs for an explanation of this one.

4. "Ledges" - Noah Gunderson

Folk music is something that I think is very special. It's timeless and the amazing artists who delve into that genre are nearly always great storytellers. Noah Gunderson has a beautiful repertoire but Ledges is my favorite. Other notable songs include: "Caroline," "Poor Man's Son" and "Separator"

5. "I Heard Your Voice In A Dream" - SMASH Cast

You probably can't tell from my music choices thus far, but I love Broadway. So when I found out there was a TV show about Broadway I was pumped. While the acting was iffy at times, the music was really good and my boy Jeremy Jordan was stellar. I especially love the performance of this song!

6. "I Don't Wanna Be In Love" - Good Charlotte

Good Charlotte has been a favorite of mine for a very long time, and somehow I never listened to this song (or at least I don't remember it). Here is another one that I hardcore jam to in my car. People look at me weird at stop lights, but that's fine. Also they released new music in 2015 and I almost cried.

7. "Chandelier" - Twisted Measure

As much as I like the original version of this song by Sia, I love this version. This was my second most played song of 2015 and its easy to see why. Its stunning. Plus I just really love A capella music.

8. "Jackie and Wilson" - Hozier (Live In America)

I was fortunate enough to see Hozier life this summer and it was an ethereal experience. No pun intended, but at times I felt as though I were at church. He is just as good, if not better, live and it was such a chill experience. Other notable songs: all of them. I'm not kidding, there isn't a bad song on his album.

9. "Thank You" - Amber Run

Shoutout to my friend for showing me these guys a while ago because they are so great. Very calming, great lyrics and just a really interesting sound. If you know who they are, kudos to you. Please share them with all of your friends so they become famous and come to America. Other notable songs: "I Found," "Noah" and "Spark"

10. "A Little Bit of Everything" - Dawes

I must admit, when these guys opened for Hozier this past summer I was partially annoyed. The majority of their set felt very "country" to me, and I am definitely not a country music type of girl. But this song blew me away. The lyrics of this song almost made me cry. I still can't decide if it's happy or sad, but that's why I love it so much.

This is just a sampling of the over 2,000 songs and 40,000 minutes of music that I listened to this year. What have you been loving?

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
