Last season on MTV's "Scream", we followed the story of Emma Duvall (Willa Fitzgerald) and her friends surviving the attacks of a cloaked figure wearing a ghost-like mask.
We learned of the infamous murderer, Brandon James, and his paternal relations to Emma. We discovered not all is seemed in the town of Lakewood. Most importantly, we found out who the killer was: Piper Shaw (Amelia Rose Blaire), daughter of Brandon James and half sister of Emma.
Unfortunately, we also realized no one is safe. Whether it was the charming Riley (Brianne Tju) or the brave Sheriff Hudson (Jason Wiles), anyone was fair game to be the next victim. As Noah Foster (John Karna) said, "You root for them, you love them, so when they are brutally murdered, it hurts."
Although many mysteries were answered after the finale, the season left us with a few questions. Who was Mr. Branson? Who was Piper's accomplice? and What was Audrey Jensen's (Bex Taylor-Klaus) relation with Piper?
With season two coming out next week, MTV has launched a trailer, the first seven minutes of the first episode and promos featuring the survivors of the first season appearing suspicious, stating that he or she is the killer and proceeds to warn the viewer to not trust nothing.
The trailer shows the survivors of last season, also known as the 'Lakewood 6', celebrating Emma's return after leaving to rehabilitate after the murders, Audrey being harassed by a mysterious, yet familiar voice, and a few new characters and/or victims. It's also revealed Brandon James' brother, Troy, will play a part in this season.
The first seven minutes paid a slight homage to the opening scene in "Scream 2", taking place in Audrey's new workplace, the movie theater, premiering what seemed like an adaptation of last season's events. It seemed it didn't take long for the killer to show up, until we watch the scene unfold as a prank gone wrong.
Aside from the trailer and preview, the promos continue to shift suspicion to every character, in an attempt to confuse the audience in someway. Is this a way to throw us off the trail of who the killer is, or is it a clever ruse to surprise us at the end?
Currently, we don't know and we won't know until after the season airs. Is Troy James out for revenge for his brother and former niece? or is he a red herring, a distraction from the real killer? Could the killer could be one of the new faces joining the show, someone possibly inspired by the Brandon James murders? Or could the killer be a survivor turned murder?
We won't even start to know until season two's premiere: Monday, May 30 11/10c.
