Many of us are aware of Tim Burton’s new project “Ms. Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children.” This new major motion picture is based off of the book with the same title written by Ransom Riggs. The main character, Jacob Portman, has special relationship with his grandfather, Abraham “Abe” Portman. Abe has always told Jacob stories about his childhood and growing up in a children’s home in Whales. Abe’s stories consist of the children in the home all having supernatural powers (AKA peculiarities) and how the children were hiding from monsters who were trying to harm them. Along with these stories came various photographs of these children. While Jacob believed these for a while, he grew out of them but remained very close with his grandfather, who later dies a tragic death. With his dying words, he tells Jacob to find the children’s home and the headmistress, Ms. Peregrine (AKA “The Bird”), followed by “I should have told you this years ago…”, and passes away. Jacob then goes on a journey to find the old children’s home, does, realizes that the monsters were real and goes on a mission to kill all of the monsters with the peculiar children and Ms. Peregrine.
The movie “Ms. Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children is full of magic, love, friendship, action and adventure. The various peculiarities include: air, earth, fire, super-strength, the power of bringing things to life, shape-shifting and much more. The love and loyalty that is felt when watching this bunch is that similar to a family. When the peculiars first meet Jacob, they immediately accept him for who he is. The adventures and action that take place throughout the movie are truly captivating. From using their powers to help take down the monsters (hollowgasts), to bringing up a once sunken ship and using it to sail.
This movie is a great movie to see with the family and an even better individual read.
