We all know Mozart for his musical charm. He started composing at the age of five and performed at the age of eight. He travelled all over the world with his father to indulge people with his gift. At the age of 17, he was working for the Salzburg King. However, just like many other geniuses, Mozart had his troubles and quirks.
1. He delighted in poop jokes. He wrote a classical choir piece called "Lick My A**". It was later changed into "Let Us be Glad". Multiple of his letters to his family contained poop jokes. Historians thought that Mozart was into poop sexually. In reality, he probably thought that they were hilarious.
A letter to Mozart's Cousin- Maria Anna Thekla Mozart:
Well I wish you good night
But poop in your bed and make it burst
Sleep Soundly, my love
Into your mouth you'll shove
2. Mozart had financial troubles. This might seem like something ordinary (especially to us college students), but Mozart made a lot of money. Surprisingly, he was in great debt during most of his life. He enjoyed being frivolous with his wife, Constanze. He died with little to his name.
3. According to his students, Mozart was unpredictable when it came to music. He never erased anything. He simply just wrote the melody that was implanted in his head. There are no copies of his music written through his hand. Unlike Bach or Beethoven, he didn't put much thought into the structure of his music. Nevertheless, his music is still considered a classic today.
4. Mozart had an affair with his wife's sister, Aloysia, before he married his wife. He was willing to go after Aloysia even though she was married.
5. He often blamed the Italians for the ruin of his success. His rival, Salieri, was Italian.
6. When asked by the Germans if he could construct an opera for the national theater, he built a story around a brothel. This angered the king.
Mozart died at the age of 35. He conquered the world and left an impression. Today, it's rumored that listening to his music will make one smarter (The Mozart Effect). He stands as my favorite musician because his whimsical attitude towards music and towards his life.
