Why Moving Out Of Your Dorm Is More Stressful Than Emotional

You gotta pack everything from your windows to your walls, but it just takes forever.

Why Moving Out Of Your Dorm Is More Stressful Than Emotional
Kim Lutz Harvill

In the last week of college, it is a very emotional and stressful time. You have a lot of exams and papers to prepare for and write, but you also have to pack up your entire room. Yes, from the windows to the walls, you have to pack up everything that you moved in with. And you may even have more items than you thought.

But when it comes time for packing, you realize that it’s going to take forever.

And you also have to study for your exams and write your final papers.

So you start stressing out. You have to pack your books but you need them to study with. And you are not moving until the last day after all your exams, so you can’t pack any of the textbooks you have.

But you also need to wear your clothes throughout the week. So you decide your outfits early in advance so you know what you can pack. And same with the shoes, you only have a few nice pairs so you center your outfits around your shoes.

So after you decided on what you are wearing for the week, you start grabbing everything on your side of the dorm and packing it. And by packing, I mean cramming your stuff into any open suitcase.

But you also have to take down your wall decorations, so you gently try to take down your command hooks from off of the walls. But with that, you can't take down the string lights you and your roommate took forever putting up in the beginning of the year. The lights provide actual light, you barely use the switches near the door anymore because they are so bright. And they are also up real high, and it is basically a workout taking them down.

Throughout the whole week of packing and studying, you keep seeing people everywhere crying as they are packing up to leave for the summer, and you keep wondering why they are not stressing out because of all that they have to do.

Packing up to leave college is stressful, for some people. Not for everyone, though, some people are just relieved to finally pack up all the crap that has been sitting in their dorm room all year.

When it is the last week of college and all of your academic obligations are almost over, and you also have to pack half a room's worth of items into your car, it takes a toll on people.

So it's decided that you pack during your study breaks, and you write those essays when you are bored from packing and studying.

And even though everyone else is tearing up that they have to leave, you just realize that they all had connections to people at school. They made such good friends and they do not want to leave them for the summer. But summer is for having fun, so can't they see each other over the summer?

And as you stuffing your bedsheets around your picture frames because you forgot plastic bags from home, you are just glad that you can finally go home and relax finally.

Until you have to unpack your bags at home. And then pack them for vacations and when you go back to school.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
