Moving? Here are some tips!
Word Press

Moving soon? As for most college students, you are probably moving back into the dorms, or maybe this year an apartment style dormitory. As for these moving tips, they may not help you as much. I am talking about moving. Moving such as from a house to your own apartment, or moving to a brand new house. As for me, this is going to be a huge step in my life within the next month. I am moving into my first apartment with my husband, and I couldn't be more excited. Of course, as anything, moving can be extremely stressful, so here are some tips I have gathered together to help your packing and moving a little less stressful.

1.) Six weeks before:

Six weeks out before moving! This should be your very first starting point.

Start your "moving" budget. How are you going to move? Do you need a truck? Do you need a crew? Can you just sweet talk some besties into helping you? (Of course giving them free food after their hard work instead of moola.)

2.) Five weeks before:

Five weeks out!

This may or may not be the worst part. Organize, organize, and organize! Clean out your closets and drawers ! You'll say, "Wow... Do I really have these many clothes?" The answer is yes. You really don't know how many clothes you have until you start organizing.

There is also a sweet part to the chaos. You can always donate your clothes you no longer wear or fit in to a charity. GoodWill is always accepting generous donations. If you think your trendy and you could get money for some of your clothes you can try Plato's Closet, Clothes Mentor, or Style Encore. There are also more stores like these, but these are the ones that are near me!

3.) Four weeks before:

Four weeks out!

This is a so called relax week if you will say. This week should be your buying supplies week. You need boxes, tape, labels, and wrapping material (newspaper works like a charm, start collecting!) Labeling is also an essential. Write on everything and all over. If you need to color code, that is also an option! It'll help you out big time when you get to your new place!

This is also the week where if you are in a prior apartment or house, you make sure you tell all your utility providers saying you no longer need there service. If you love your service provider, see if they have any recommendations of the location of where your moving too!

4.) Three weeks before:

This is the step where I am at! Three weeks out!

This is where you should start packing up the stuff you rarely use everyday. For example, it could be seasonal items, seasonal clothing, some bathroom stuff, and even decorations.

This would also be the week where you should get a plan for packing. Pick out some boxes to be your "fragile" stuff. You can also have boxes for "last load" and "Do not load" Do not load would be stuff you want to keep with you, and no go on the truck.

You could also keep a list of everything you put in each box, just for housekeeping references. You never know a box could break and some stuff may fall out. Keep accountability!

Basically, organize yourself this week!

5.) Two weeks before:

Start seriously packing. Do not buy any more food or supplies that you need unless you are 100% desperate. You are trying to pack, and not add more stuff. So look in your pantry and start eating PB&J every night for dinner. It'll save you money and time in the end, and it's only for two weeks!

Also, start calling people letting them know your new address.

6.) One week before:

Get pumped! Only one week away!

Leave out stuff you will need for that week, and pack everything else up! This will save you bundles of time! Make sure you do any list minute things you need. Put all valuables away somewhere safe (such as a safe, or lockbox.)

7.) Moving day!

Do a couple of walkthroughs and make sure you have everything! There's no going back from here! Make sure you lock windows and doors. Supervise all the movers! This is your new apartment and make sure it's done the way YOU want it to be! Last, but not least, GET EXCITED, YOUR FINALLY MOVED!

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
