Moving out is not a simple task. The following are three big reasons as to why I haven't moved out (yet).
- Um helloooooo, it’s expensive! It is to my knowledge that traditionally once someone graduates high school and moves on to college, they move out. Well my friend, I’m sure that a lot of people are aware that it is not cheap! An amateur right out of high school would say all they have to worry about is paying the rent and that’s all. However, there are a lot of components to it! It’s not just rent, it is also utilities and the fact that you won’t have mommy or daddy to cook anymore, this therefore also causing the freshman 15 that we all know and love.
- I don’t know about you but having to pay for my own tuition is already a huge amount of money. Even in a community college it still all adds up. Four classes equaling a total of about twelve hundred dollars a semester and that’s not even including the supplies I’ll need or the books that are required for each class. On top of paying I also have to add in what I pay for my phone monthly and the half that I have to pay for my car insurance…with the job I have and working 4 days a week, I’m blessed that I’m able to cover!
- Luckily I didn’t have to travel to a different city in order to attend the college I want to go to. The University I want to transfer to is right in my town so the school being right in my town is a major plus! This means that I am able to stay with my family and not miss out on things like birthdays or thanksgiving. Being able to live in my parents’ house isn’t really “free”, it’s not like they’re giving me a free pass for a home. Living with them implies that I’ll be a full time student and that my goal is to graduate with a degree and also work and be able to pay for my own personal expenses. If I have those things covered then my parents are more than ok with me living with them.
Overall I am glad that my parents are letting me still live under their roof, it has definitely helped me in many forms. I am sure that as the time goes by and as I keep matriculating I will learn more things and later make the big decision of moving out once I have thought everything through and have everything more planned out. College is one big adventure with many little adventures within and I am taking it one at a time to be able to enjoy every aspect of it.
