It's the moment we've all been waiting for... fellow college students, the school year is finally over! You have survived, even if you haven't thrived, but none of that matters now because you feel like you can confidently say it's time to leave the responsibilities behind and nap for three months. But something has to happen before you can start that hibernation... and that would be moving back home for the summer.
Stage 1: Denial
There is that tiny window between finishing your last final and having to pack up your room. Maybe it lasts for an hour, or maybe it lasts for a few days, either way, it is a blissful time when you feel nothing hanging over your head for the first time in eight months. You feel the urge to relax, sleep, watch Netlfix, basically do anything that requires doing nothing.
Stage 2: Reality Check
Whether it's your RA or your roommate, someone is going to remind you that there is a move out deadline. How dare they pop your bliss bubble?
Stage 3: Packing Panic
You look around your room and realize for the first time how much crap you actually own. You also realize that it is your job to pack it all up and get it into a car.
Stage 4: False Success
Phew! You worked hard to cram all your ridiculous belongings into bags, suitcases, and boxes, and somehow, you fit it all into your car. But you're not done quite yet...
Stage 5: Getting Down To Business
Before you can actually leave campus, there is some tedious business to take care of. Returning rental books, forwarding your mail, passing a room inspection, whatever the tasks, the list is long and exhausting and all you want to do now is get home.
Stage 6: The Goodbye
After weeks of wanting nothing more than to arrive at this moment, when it actually comes time... it's hard to say goodbye. You get nostalgic about your dorm, your friends, and your social life as you now have to leave it all behind for the summer.
Stage 7: Recovery Of Excitement
After the sad goodbyes have passed, you get happy again! You're on your way to your own room, your old friends, and no school for three whole months!
Stage 8: The Letdown
You finally, actually arrive home, unpack your car, then sit on your couch. Already missing your friends and your college, you think, "Now what?"
Stage 9: Healing
You cheer up eventually because you realize your friends are just a phone call away and you get to sleep as much as you want for the time being. Enjoy your summer break, you deserve it.
