I am going to list ten movies, the first five will be low budget films that are so awful they’re great. The second five are fantastic movies packed full of crazy visuals. Most of the movies are horror, with the exception of few that are more fantasy thrillers.
This one is for those that love low budget horror films. I personally cannot get enough of them. Gore, raunchiness, strange plot lines, and the awkward acting is what make these movies. Sometimes they’re hard to get through, but it’s a fun time to watch them. Of course, these movies aren’t for everyone. Here are some low budget horror films you may have passed up:
- DEATH BED: THE BED THAT EATS (1977)
This movie is strange. What you think it is about, is exactly what it’s about. A demonic bed that feasts on human flesh. Some parts are difficult to get through, but trust me it is worth it to find out why the bed is demonic. They did their best with a budget of $30,000, well they at least attempted to do their best.
- CHILDREN SHOULD’NT PLAY WITH DEAD THINGS (1972)
Cheesy 70’s horror movie. What more can I say, except for dumb kids and zombies. However it does have an impressive cult following. It has potential to be a fun movie for date night.
- BUIO OMEGA (BEYOND THE DARKNESS) (1979)
A man loses his mind when his wife dies and attempts to preserve her. He goes on a rampage of insanity and terrorizes young women.
- KILLING SPREE (1987)
This movie is absolutely ridiculous. A man thinks his wife is cheating on him so he murders men he suspects she slept with, also a few others along the way. The people he kills come back from the dead seeking revenge. This movie is a gore-fest, so if you love gore then this is a good movie for you.
- TOURIST TRAP (1979)
Group of kids, secluded museum, and living mannequins. This movie is unique and fun to watch. It is the best out of these first five.
These next set of movies are absolutely fantastic, many are my personal favorites. Some for the reason that the visual effects are amazing. While others are original and have a beautiful peculiarity about them. These movies should be on your list of what to watch next:
- FAUST (1994)
This is a Jan Svankmajer film, so of course it is amazing. The visuals are absolutely beautiful, a combination of live-action and stop-motion to create this unnerving dream like film. This could be a horror movie to some just because of the haunting imagery. The best thing to do is watch the trailer to see for yourself.
- ZHONG GUI (SEEDING OF A GHOST) (1983)
A man is cursed by a sorcerer after he hit him with his taxi cab. The visual effects in this movie are amazing and you’ll be interested the whole way through.
- LISA AND THE DEVIL (1973)
My personal favorite movie. You’ll feel like you’re in a dream when watching it. It’s not a horror movie, but more fantasy thriller. Directed by the fantastic Mario Bava, this movie is like nothing you’ve seen before.
- GUINEA PIG (MOVIE SERIES) (1985-1988)
An extremely controversial movie series that include vicious, nauseating scenes of violence. The most popular two from this series is:
Guinea Pig 2: Flower Of Flesh & Blood, and Guinea Pig 6: Mermaid in A Manhole. I cannot even begin to describe these movies so I’ll leave the trailer to Guinea Pig 2: Flower of Flesh & Blood. These movies are extremely violent, just a warning in case you do not enjoy those types of movies.
- SANTA SANGRE (1989)
Alejandro Jodorowsky, the man who created The Holy Mountain made this film. And if you know who that is then that is enough of a description. It is a beautiful movie that will make you feel uncomfortable, but you’ll want to stay and watch.
