For as long as I can remember, my family has been a movie family. And not in the sense that we were always going to the movies, but in the sense that we were ALWAYS watching one.
When I was younger, my parents would put on a movie after dinner a lot of nights and then when my bedtime came up, they would pause it for me, or if I was lucky, I would be allowed to stay up a little late. Sometimes it was a new movie that we would get a Redbox of, or sometimes we would just rewatch the Harry Potter movies for the hundredth time.
I love TV shows. Following through and finishing a show is so great but can also be a huge commitment. With Gilmore Girls, House, Friends, and some other shows, the characters draw me in and I love the stories. But with Grey's Anatomy, even my love for the show sometimes cannot overwhelm the commitment of so many hours of content. (Though others, that amount of content is AMAZING.)
When I have a day off (or take a spa day), I usually pick a comedy or a romcom or sometimes even a thriller, and I watch to my heart's content.
One of the ways my family and I have bonded throughout the years has been through quoting things. Movies mostly. I find it so fun to watch the different people that come into our lives sit at our dinner table and look so confused as we have whole conversations in quotes. I also really enjoyed watching my sister-in-law learn our ways, watch some more movies, and begin to follow our crazy conversations.
The other day, as we were driving around, my dad spotted this car. He asked me what movie it was from, and he was shocked to learn that I had never seen "The Graduate." So then we watched it the next day.
When my first boyfriend and I split, my parents found me a movie with Patrick Swayze that had a not happy, but not sad ending, and now I will choose to watch "Ghost" every time I see it on the TV.
Some of the best memories that I have with my family are those nights watching movies. I mean, we watched TV shows too, but those were a weekly ritual, not so much a special memory.
I do really love TV shows too though.
