During these long summer days, I have found myself at times with nothing to do, no place to be, and no one to be with. No, don’t worry, this isn’t one of those articles where I sulk about previous relationships and make an open plea for the girl of my dreams to come calling. This article is about making that down-time into enjoyable and memorable times. Ruling out being with friends or doing something that is proactively beneficial for your future, the thing that I have found to be the most enjoyable at my lonesome times is watching movies. I’m the type of person that is always caught up with the new movie trailers and seeing every movie I can get my hands on.
Like many movie enthusiasts, my Rotten Tomatoes (Flixster) app gets plenty of use as I am always looking up ratings to movies. Fortunately, I almost always check Rotten Tomatoes before I watch a movie, and it has helped me avoid some terrible movies until I’m forced to watch them with my stubborn friends. At the same time, it has also been my downfall, as I have neglected some great movies because it got a lower rating. I become the stubborn friend and adamantly protest the lower rated movie and suggest a movie with a higher rating.
It is for this reason that I feel obliged to come up with a list of a few movies that Rotten Tomatoes got wrong. The majority of the movies on my list were watched before I checked the ratings, and I am thankful that it played out that way.
Comedies:
"Tommy Boy" (1995) - 44 percent
"Bad News Bears" (2005) - 48 percent
" Wedding Crashers" (2005) - 75 percent
"Accepted" (2006) - 36 percent
"National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation" (1989) – 64 percent
"Four Christmases" (2008) – 25 percent
"We’re The Millers" (2013) – 47 percent
Drama:
"Remember the Titans" (2000) - 73 percent
"Coach Carter" (2005) - 65 percent
Family:
"Robin Hood" (Disney) (1973) - 52 percent
"Atlantis: The Lost Empire" (2001) – 49 percent
"Oliver and Company" (1988) – 43 percent
Action:
"Gangster Squad" (2013) – 31 percent
"Independence Day" (1996) – 60 percent
And admittedly, Romantic Comedy:
"About Time" (2013) – 70 percent
And in theaters now, "Paper Towns," which currently stands at 58 percent.
These movies will make you laugh till you cry, think about things in a whole new light, have you on the edge of your seat, and bond with whoever you are watching them with like nothing else. Everyone knows that these ratings are subjective and everyone is different, but I love these movies and believe they should have a higher rating, even the ones in the 70 percent range.
All in all, if you end up seeing one of these while you are searching for movies to watch, don’t be that stubborn friend that refuses to watch these great movies because Rotten Tomatoes got them wrong.
