Movie Review: 'The Nightmare Before Christmas'

If you enjoy stop-motion animation films, then you’ll absolutely love the classic film, The Nightmare Before Christmas! Not only is the film well known for its commemorative story and music, however, it is a film that touches the hearts of those who watch it.

The Nightmare Before Christmas’s creator, Tim Burton, had convinced the company he worked for at the time to make his masterpiece come to life. No longer just a poem, The Nightmare Before Christmas came out in 1993 and although Burton is a director now, he only helped produced his film during that time, as well as created the extra characters.

The Nightmare Before Christmas tells the story of Jack Skellington, who lives in Halloweentown and is known as The Pumpkin King. He is an important figure amongst all the other monsters who reside in Halloweentown, be that as it may, Jack Skellington starts to become weary of performing the same Halloween routine year after year and wishes that he could do something else for a change, instead of always being The Pumpkin King.

The Nightmare Before Christmas had received five stars due to its creative gothic theme and it had become popular among the children, as well as the adults who watched this spectacular film.

Jack Skellington ends up going for a walk in the woods one night, then he eventually comes across a mysterious set of carved doors in the forest, one which happens to be the shape of a Christmas tree. Jack opens up that door and is taken to a place called Christmastown. Then, devising a plan to bring Christmas to Halloween, Jack decides to take over Santa’s role.

As my all-time favorite movie, as well as my favorite film ever created by Tim Burton, I really admire the structure of the whole story. It is one of the most magical films that has been created, unlike any modern films that I have seen today.

When you watch this movie, you can tell that it was not just about the money, however, it was about invoking new feelings and ideas in people. Burton really put his heart into The Nightmare Before Christmas because to him, his creation was an important work of art.

So important that he chose Danny Elfman, who is a wonderful creator of music for a majority of Burton’s other films, to help make The Nightmare Before Christmas a film that inspires children that they should never doubt who they are as a person.

I honestly believe Burton wanted to make this story come alive due to the fact that he was an outcast when he was younger and Burton wanted to tell children, or adults, that he understands them, he understands those who have felt like an outcast.

If you watched all of Burton’s movies, especially his stop-motion animation ones, then you’ll understand where I am coming from and why I admire Burton as much as I admire his film, The Nightmare Before Christmas.

So, I would recommend this movie to anyone of any age. It has true potential and it sends out positive messages to those who are watching it. Another reason why I think it is a unique film is because it does not have a sequel. In fact, Burton considered creating a sequel for it, but he decided not to do that because Burton did not want to ruin the magic of the original. I am thankful that Burton made that choice and it just makesThe Nightmare Before Christmas more special. Those who have not seen this movie should, especially if they admire dark, gothic themes and stop-motion animations.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
