“A Beautiful Mind” is a movie, based on a true story, about a man named John Nash who discovered Game Theory. Along with studying and discovering, he develops a mental disorder known as schizophrenia. These troubles affected his discovery, job, and family life. Schizophrenia is a psychological disorder in which a person makes their own reality and makes up people. I think John Nash and others who suffer from schizophrenia are maladaptive. Schizophrenics are also delusional, and they hallucinate. I noticed in the movie John was interacting with Parcher, Charles, and Marcee, people that he hallucinated. John believed everyone saw Parcher, but everyone was wondering who or what he was reacting to because they didn't see him. In the movie, a lot of people asked John who was he reacting to. His wife and friends didn’t understand his paranoia or hallucinations. In the movie, John pushed Alicia and their child when he was trying to them from Parcher. Before that, Alicia found his secret house where he was working with Parcher. The reason why I say John was maladaptive because he did not seem lively to his friends or family. At the end of the movie, his friend was so happy to see him. On the other hand, John (physically) didn’t seem to be happy; a lack of emotion. Almost at the end of the movie, his friend took his wife to see John working with the students in the library. Alicia was so proud to see John make an effort to step out the norm and interact with people more. He also joked about his condition to his student which made me feel like he’s really treating his disorder.
