This Sunday, November 9th, the brothers of Sigma Alpha Epsilon and the sisters of Pi Beta Phi will be hosting their 2nd annual Chili Festival at the Farmer’s Market in downtown Morgantown. The event was an extreme success last year and a hopeful continuation of that success is in order as the event nears.
Philanthropy is a word that many Greek-Life members take pride in in order to benefit the community to which they represent. Every Greek organization at WVU has a respected charity to which they associate themselves with in order to bring a more prosperous atmosphere to the people benefiting from the charity. This year, all proceeds made during the Chili Fest will go towards the Bartlett House in Morgantown which is a non-profit organization to benefit the homeless people living in Monongalia County, West Virginia.
Founded in 1985, the Bartlett House is well known throughout Morgantown as a premier association to work with in regards to philanthropic events. The mission of the Bartlett house is to address homeless issues such as providing food, shelter, and medical need to those living in the Morgantown area. The Bartlett House is committed to providing basic need to those who need it most.
The Greek members hosting the Chili Fest are thrilled to be involved with such a great cause such as providing charitable work with a fun atmosphere. The Chili Fest will consist of various chili recipes from each Greek organization on campus along with a vibrant environment filled with music, games, and great food. It is with sincere hope that the Morgantown community comes out and supports this event as a high level of promotion has been made to spread the word.
Greek Life is more than stereotypical parties and such events. Greek Life is a direct link between their respected organization and the community to which they reside. Events such as this Chili Fest show just how easy it is to get involved with the community and help out a great cause such as the Bartlett House. The event will begin at 12 pm this coming Sunday and continue until 2 pm. Tickets are $5. All information concerning the Bartlett House can be found at www.bartletthouse.org where donations can also be made.
