Summer is here, and many can argue that it’s the best time of year. I, for one, can’t disagree. Sleeping in your own bed, seeing your parents and dog every day, hanging out at your favorite coffee shop, waiting tables, driving with the windows down and country blasting through the radio, having flexibility with your schedule, taking a trip to the beach. These are all activities that we can’t do on a daily basis during the school year.
With that in mind, there’s plenty of opportunities to become lazy during the summer. There’s no real reason why you need to be up at 6 a.m. every day, and it’s not like you have homework to do until midnight. Before you know it, your days could become filled with watching Netflix all day. There’s nothing wrong with spending some time binge watching your favorite show, but it’s important not to spend every day watching TV in bed.
Should you find yourself slipping into a summertime funk, remind yourself that these things will keep you motivated to have a balanced, fun, and unforgettable summer.
Your bank account.
Money isn’t everything, but admit it: It can be challenging to do stuff you want to do if you don’t have cash or your bank account is plummeting. In order to make sure your bank account isn’t empty, get a job and stay committed to that job if you like it. Having a summer job is a great way to stay busy, be responsible, and make some extra cash.
Wearing a bathing suit.
No one’s asking you to look like a Victoria’s Secret model at the beach. However, it doesn’t hurt to feel confident with your body in a bathing suit. Let this motivate you to hit the gym during the week, go for a hike or run, and choose a bowl of fresh fruit over a bag of Cheez-Its.
3. Your general health.
Making sure that your body is feeling good is a great motivator. You can’t do well at work if you’re hungover, and it’s hard to function without a good night’s sleep. Go back to the basics by sleeping eight hours a night, eating three meals a day (even though it is tempting to skip breakfast), exercising, and socializing.
4. Your friends.
Your friends can help you stay motivated this summer. They’re the people who will wake up early to go to the gym with you, keep you sane, and the people who will meet up with you during your lunch break. Keep them in the loop and help each other out.
5. Maintaining a daily schedule.
Having a routine will also keep you motivated this summer. Instead of asking yourself, What should I do now? make a habit of things you do every day. It may be as simple as going for a run in the morning before work then making dinner and reading before bed. Whatever your routine is, try and stick with it.
Summer is the time to relax and recharge before another hectic school year. But it’s essential to not become too lazy or the beginning of the school year will be quite the transition.
