What defines success? How does one reach it? The truth of the matter is that success isn’t a destination; instead, it is a journey. It is a journey that develops from something we use and need every day: motivation. Motivation is what drives our success, and without it, we are unable move forward to become the person we want to be. Being a college student, juggling rigorous coursework and balancing a social life, as well as extra activities and clubs, can be extremely difficult and it’s important we continue to stay motivated for all the right reasons.
The definition of success is really something that cannot be defined by one single person due to the fact that it is different for everyone. I won’t give you a precise definition in this article, and by no means am I intending to define success for anyone. All I will say however, is that in the end, I believe one becomes successful when they find a sense of fulfillment or happiness in whatever they choose to do.
Whichever major or occupation you decide, will bring about challenges. As tough as adversity is, it is important to keep in mind that success will come to those who wait and work hard. You will find contentment but it will take time.
I mentioned earlier how we need motivation for success to push us towards the right direction. But where does the motivation stem from? That sounds easy, but it has to come from within. In order to be successful you need a drive; a source that will push you to work harder than you ever thought you could. Maybe the motivation comes from failure; such as, a past time or experience that made you realize you needed to become something better so you could redeem whatever you have messed up the first time. Maybe the motivation comes from watching others on their path to success—like a friend, family member, or co-worker. Maybe it comes from the immense passion you have for the field you chose to work in. Motivation can stem from almost anywhere; and a lot of the time people have a really hard time finding it and we need to learn that that is OK.
We pave our own path throughout life—meaning we get to decide our passions, desires, and overall choices. We have the ability to be influenced by other people; however, no one else can change what we may call our very own success.
Like I said before, success is not a destination, it is a journey—meaning: it is a rigid course filled with frustration, stress, and negativity—but that is OK. What is important, is that we are able to find the motivation to keep us going though the obstacles. If life were easy it would be very boring. Everyone is able to be successful if they put in the effort and really find the true motivation that guides them to their success. With the proper motivation comes contentment and success. All individuals are capable of finding their motivation—just remember it usually sparks from something within. Its important you find your own motivation to start your path to success and complacency.
