Happy Mother's Day, To My Best Friend

To mi madre linda,

Feliz Día de Las Madres. Happy Mother's Day Ma.

Whether we celebrate it on May 10th or on the second Sunday of May, I want you to know that I appreciate you every day of the year. Yes, even when we have our moments and our little quarrels.

You are my best friend. I mean, yeah, I've got other friends who say that we're best friends, but to me, you will always be my best friend. The one who's always on top of the list, aside from my sisters.

You are always the one encouraging me to do my best and to not be scared of anything that may come my way. You hype me up and make me feel that I am confident and strong enough to do anything and everything in life.

Without you, who knows where I would be. You have kept me in line and have worked hard to mold me into the person I am today. I cannot thank you enough. Every bad decision I have made and you have never loved me any less.

Our relationship nowadays is as strong as it could have ever been and I am thankful for that. I am thankful that I am able to talk to you about anything and everything. I am thankful for the late night conversations after dinner when it's just the two of us left at the table. When Daddy goes downstairs to watch TV and when the other two dingbats I call my sisters go upstairs to bed, or to finish homework. I am thankful for the stories you tell me, even if I roll my eyes, or tell you that I already know this story. I am thankful for the stories of your childhood, for they make me appreciate what I have and what I have been able to grow up with.

You are one of the most important people in my life and I never want you to forget that. You are an amazing human being. You are my superhero and I love you to pieces.

Con mucho amor,

Ya-Ya.

P.S. Love you too Daddy, but it's not Father's Day yet. Just you wait.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
