Your mother is probably the smartest person you know. Even if you don't realize it yet. I'm sure your mom has said something to you before that you've just brushed off or thought "she's wrong" but then it turns out that she was right all along. Always listen to your mom.
Hard work really does pays off:
Growing up I was never very fond of homework and I didn't do much. I procrastinated, a lot. My mom always told me "always do your work and put your best effort into it." She always told me if I worked hard enough, it would pay off and help me in my future. Well she was right. I worked hard and did the best I could in high school. I did lots of community service, started going to more school events and got involved in clubs and sports. I recieved many awards and scholarships because of all my hard work in and out of the classroom and now I am attending my #1 pick for college!
Who your real friends are:
Moms seem to have this sixth sense when it comes to the friends that their children have. Some how they can tell who the real friends are and who isn't going to be around for long. They might tell you that they don't like one of your friends - and if they do you should take that into consideration because there's a reason she's saying it. Some friends are temporary, some are forever and some aren't really your friends. If you ask your mom there's a good chance she can tell you which friends you can count on. Spare yourself the loss of a friend and listen to your mom.
What you're capable of:
Your mother is your number one supporter. No matter what it is you are doing she will be there cheering you on and helping you out. She'll push you to do things outside of your comfort zone and things you've never done/think you can't do because she knows you can. I remember during my senior season of outdoor track I had literally the worst 400 hurdle race of the season - I didn't even get over the first hurdle. I wasn't racing with the right mindset that day. After I messed up on the hurdles my mom came over and talked to me. She told me how much she believed in me, how no matter what I was thinking I needed to know I could do it. I had one more race that meet and despite 2 previous races that didn't go so well I got on the line and ran. I ran my best 200 meter time of the season that day and it was all thanks to my mother.
"If you don't, you'll probably regret it":
If your mom ever says this to you, go do whatever you're talking about. I can think of so many situations where my mom has said to me "ok you don't have to go, but you'll probably regret it" or "you're going to end up regretting this". She was right. If you're ever not sure about going to do something - no matter what the reason is that's making you hesitate - go. Live a life without regrets.
Put sunscreen on:
If you're lazy, like me, putting on sunscreen is the last thing on your mind. Whenever it's nice out all I want to do is put on my bathing suit and get out and lay in the sun. Taking the time to put sunscreen on everywhere, and make sure it's all even (if you miss a spot that would not be good) is something I don't really like to do. On those really sunny days my mom always asks "do you have sunscreen on" and usually my answer is no. Well I've ended up with some pretty bad sunburns. So if your mother ever asks, definitely put some on. You'll save yourself from pain, peeling and her wrath.
