"I would rather be what God chose to make me than the most glorious creature that I could think of; for to have been thought about, born in God's thought, and then made by God, is the dearest, grandest and most precious thing in all thinking." - George MacDonald
In the age of a flawlessly contoured face, perfectly plumped lips, and symmetrically shaded in eyebrows, insecurities seem to be rampant. Whether we like to acknowledge it or not, we all have at least one thing -- most of us have many things -- about our bodies that we find unpleasant. After all, we are only human! I have to admit that my heart breaks at the thought of a world where individuals base their degree of self-worth on the superficial standards that society demands. The value we find in ourselves should not stem from how many "likes" we receive on a "selfie," for we were created for a far greater purpose than that! True self-worth is not found in appearance, material wealth, awards and accolades, or the relationships we have with one another. Basing self-worth off of things of this world will inevitably leave us frustrated and disappointed. It must come from within us, from the confidence and knowledge that the Lord of the universe thought we were special enough to die for us and desires to have a relationship with us.
Too often girls seek beauty from a mirror instead of from their hearts. Song of Solomon 4:7 states, "You are altogether beautiful, my darling; there is no flaw in you." The more we try to chase society's criteria of what is considered an attractive appearance, the more we are actually running away from the true perfection in which God created us. It is our job to embrace the lasting beauty over that which is temporary. Let our actions and attitudes be what radiates the genuine beauty that is inside of us. The most beautiful people that I have ever met are the ones who place more value on internal qualities rather than external appearance. True beauty comes from the depths of our souls. It comes from the heart and from the spirit that God has given each of us. I once heard a speaker at my college say, "As Christians, the same spirit that defeated death on the cross lives within us!" In my opinion, there is nothing more beautiful than that.
