Wake up, get a shower, brush your teeth, get dressed, eat breakfast, drive through traffic, get to work, work eight hours, drive back through traffic, pick up your kids from school, eat dinner, watch T.V., go to bed, have boring sex with your wife/husband, fall asleep. Repeat. Repeat. Repeat. Repeat.
Our daily lives are a cycle, one day after the next is exactly the same. Nothing ever changes. You do the same thing you did the day before, and you will do the same thing you did today tomorrow. When did we all start living such monotonous lives? When did we all become so boring?
When we were young we all had these big dreams of seeing the world and discovering the wonders that it held. However, as we grew up, and responsibilities started piling on, those dreams were crushed. You cannot see the Pyramids of Giza because there is a presentation next month. If you miss it, you lose your job. Without your job, you have no money. No money means no way to pay the bills. Then you are homeless.
We're taught from a young age that in order to do or buy what you want, you have to work for it. So from the young age of 16 (In some cases, that age is a lot earlier.), kids begin to work and work and work, then they're 65 and retiring. As soon as you begin to work, you cannot stop. You are trapped. You have to earn money to buy that video game. Then, you have to earn money to save money to buy a car. Then, you have to save money to pay for college. Then, to buy an apartment. Then, to buy a house. To support your family. To put in your 401K. To pay for your funeral. Trapped.
How do we break this cycle? If I had the answer to this question, believe me I would tell everyone, and probably make enough money to do everything I have ever dreamed of. I can offer you a simple fix though. Take time for yourself. Work is important. I 120% agree that you must work to do anything in this world. The world revolves around money. I get it. I really do. But, remember that it shouldn't be the only thing in your life. Remember that you can take off work. Most jobs even give you vacation days. Start a fund. Call it something corny like "My Dream Jar" or something like that and save money to take a vacation. See the world. Visit Buenos Aires or Madrid or New England in the fall or anywhere that you want to see. Just because you feel trapped by life doesn't mean that you have to give up on your dreams.
Any kids reading this, don't grow up. Stay a kid as long as you can, and use your college years to see the world. You have a lot of responsibilities during college, but it is also the only time that you can truly do whatever the hell you want. Take advantage of that. It'll be the best decision you will ever make.
